Until recently I think his decision making was also poor. Cutting inside once too many and surrendering the ball in poor situations leaving us vulnerable. Running into man instead of space. I think he seems wiser under Le Bris and has slowed down to have a think.
The more something is said the more it become s fact. Some keep making the comparison with Dan Neil a few seasons ago but as far as I’m concerned that was a falsehood started by Alex Neil who just didn’t trust younguns. Not that I know who should be in the team- with the talent at our disposal it’s just too hard to work out and I know there’ll be sound logic from RLB whatever his choice.
Unfortunately I won’t be one of them. Stuck in Warrington til 1pm - with empty roads and nospeed cameras it might get just be possible but I need the face reality and have passed on my ticket. Really wanted to see Le Fee’s home debut.
I still wonder if moving Rigg to the right wing is the solution when Le Fèe moves central. It keeps his minutes up, it gives him a different kind of problem to solve and challenges his development. On top of that, I'd say Roberts is significantly less important than Neil, Jobe and Le Fèe.
I think it’s fair to say we need to manage people so they play at their peak and a lad of his age may need that. I also get the form argument and the need to pay Le Fee in his best position but he’s impacting every game with work rate and use of the ball from what I see, maybe a bit less so further forward but we’ve also been playing with a second forward which is partly why ie his role’s changed. Not much to worry about in my eyes. When we have our left side back let’s see who’s available and make a call then.
Great thread again RTB. Thanks again for your efforts. A big chance to put pressure firmly back on the others at the top. It won't be easy Plymouth will gain hope from last night's result but if anything it should make our lads take notice that if you don't give every game 100% focus then results like last night can happen. It should be a comfortable home win here's hoping. Haway the lads.
I would do that myself. I would ask Hume to provide width, so Rigg can step off the wing at times. Like you say, these are the challenges to learn from. He looks a tailot made 8, but 10 or 15 games as a 7 gives him a different set of skills to sharpen.
By sheer good fortune @Hettonista is driving to Hetton-le-Hole so I met him at Preston Pans, near Edinburgh. Otherwise I wouldn’t have made it, all the trains are off until at least midday. Loads of trees down around us so I'm lucky the lane wasn’t blocked.
Hume has been popping up on the edge of the D quite often so it’s clearly RLB’s instructions. Roberts has been more determined in his tracking bad and is even getting his foot in! Everyone seems to be more adaptable these days which has to be good in case of injuries, etc.
Plymouth 0 wins away from home and only 3 goals scored. We know what tends to happen next… Please lads not today. Lets put this one to bed and take our chances early on.
I have advocated for some time to play 4/4/2 due to a lack of options out wide. Until we sort this out I would play a fluid 3/5/2 and even a 4/5/1 for the Boro. game , we do have the fit and ready players available to do it , PS I thought Hull would give SU a fright , but 0-3 was a surprise, and surprises do happen in this league. OaU.
There’s a very easy solution to the ‘who to play’ problem. With so many vying for the midfield places or whether to play two strikers/get a third striker and so on. The solution is to use substitutes and player rotation. It’s not difficult. About the 60 minute mark bring on 2 or 3 such as Rigg, Roberts, Mayender. The next game you could start these 3 and bring on the ones they replaced. It keeps them all match fit. They all get game time. Fresh legs for the last half hour can only be a good thing and could prevent some injuries to tired players. We now have high quality subs so there’s no excuse not to use them.
