As someone stated yesterday the odd long ball over the top for him (Mayenda) to chase wouldnt go amiss.

Haway lads, I am not having this defence of the Hume tackle at all. I love the lad, and his tackling is part of the reason, but that yesterday was a shocker in my book. Should have been red.

It is over the ball, at full pace, and has that horrible scissor action where he wraps the player up. Their lad cannot possibly get out of the way or ride it. It is the sort of tackle that can do serious damage. I dont believe it was malucious, but it was dangerous and we got one from the ref on that occassion, as poor as he was elsewhere in the game.

What, exactly, is over the ball and what is the contact with the player?

And why does Lath do that weird little jump instead of trying to run onto the ball?

Do players always have to be able to 'get out of the way' for it to be legal?

    What's wrong with full pace, it's football ... that's how it's played?

Neither player had the ball, it was a 50/50 until Lath bottled it.

Usually when we kick the ball out (Patto) it ends up with the opposition getting possession.

Does anybody think we do this on purpose?

If they then start to move into our half it gives us the space behind them to make breakaway attacks and we are quite good at them.

This fits in with the possession stats where we have about 30-35% possession but end up winning.
‘Boro also confirm this stat with their wins coming when they had less possession.

Have I stumbled on our ‘tactic’.

Do we have an option to buy Mepham?
I’m not sure but I think this may be his last year under contract and he could be free then.
It’s early days but he looks a good fit.

No option for Mepham, straight loan.

Did he sign a new contract with them before coming here? If not, I think he’s out of contract in the summer. Days like yesterday will do no harm in convincing him to stick around.

Yes, also definatly agree with that - my reasonings behind the three i picked was a) their age (for the first two) but I picked Mepham becuase of a faultless debut. For me Ballard is on the bench against Watford. I generally would give MotM to Cirkin every game as he is my favorite player :emoticon-0103-cool:.

Trai runs at pace and lunges into the tackle. His left leg swings hard but goes over the top of the ball, and into their player. The pace at which he goes into the tackle, and the fact he has gone to ground cause his body to follow through and his right legs wraps around the player causing more impact. Their player doing a little pause it irrelevant, the onus is all on Hume and his action. It is reckless and dangerous. No idea why there is even a debate to be honest.

"his right legs wraps around the player"

No it doesn't, I've just watched it again and you couldn't be more wrong.

It's far from reckless, he knew exactly what he was doing.

Lath bottles it, puts the brakes on, that's what makes it look worse than it is.

There's a debate because there's just a chance that you may be wrong and other people disagree.

Your word isn't definitive mate <laugh>

Hume was a red IMO. And yes Lathe latte should have also had a 2nd yellow. However their I think No7(Hackney), should have been booked for flooring I think Roberts when we dispossed them half way through the 2nd half and the ref did nothing,

It was a clear second yellow for lathe. That was a ref not wanting to produce the red. I have a feeling he tried to ref it as a high tension Derby day, but got it wrong on several occassions. The penalty on half time was right in front of him too, and the look on Aylings face should have been enough for him to give it alone.

I was more or less in line with the tackle and just thought it was a committed tackle from a lad going for the ball. Never thought it was a red and still dont after viewing it numerous times.
I do however think the ref (premier league I believe) bottled the 2nd half and gave Boro a lot of decisions.

My own opinion is that the penalty at Plymouth was very soft, one of those that you’ll take all day but you’d be furious if it went against you. I always think these are the hardest ones to answer because if you’re running full sprint and someone leans into you or the slightest push can definitely send you over but they do look soft at times.

In terms of Humes tackle I do think it was reckless. Seen people sent off for much less where VAR is concerned.

I've edited it, openly, and highlighted it to show I've edited it to clarify what you've said.

I did that to point out where you're wrong.

I wasn't trying to change what you said, that's still in your original post.

I said his eft leg was over the top of the ball. Which is the second time I have said what was over the top of the ball. You have changed my post to say thigh not leg. Last time I checked thigh was part of the leg.

People, including the Sky pundits are still insisting the tackle was 'over the top'.

It might be many things but that definitely isn't one of them.
