And having to explain a decision in from of 40k+ fans would make them certainly more cautious and hopefully more sensible. Giving a warning to player A for an offence then going straight to a card for player B for the same offence would become much less common. Doesn’t need to be chapter and verse, no need for replays and only where warranted. Shouldn’t take any longer to say why than the time needed to get the ball back to take a free kick.

The referee is on the pitch with 22 other men so there is an element of man management here. Clearly this ref has non of this experience. Put in charge of school kids as they shouldn’t swear back to him. Mr Ref grow some nads and say you made a mistake and will learn from it. Would have respect for that.

disappointed with the way we went about the 2nd half to be honest. We were took apart by, lets be honest, a very ordinary side. Neil's sending off while in the laws of the game was correct, was naive from a referee who is clearly out of his depth. I would have thought a more mature, experienced ref would have talked to Neil and warned him he was on thin ice. The guy ruined what was promising to be a good game. Never mind, dust ourselves down and start again. One bad result suddenly doesn't`make us a bad team

I'm disappointed with Saturday, but not in the least despondent. We've known this team is a work in progress and there will be setbacks along the way. Whilst I would prefer those not to be at home and not by such a comprehensive scoreline, I think 4th position after 11 matches, having produced the exciting football we've seen, and with most of our injured players getting ready to come back,is a sound reflection of where we are and a good platform to go forward from here. A couple of weeks will give some of the players a well earned rest, and give Tony and his staff a time for intelligent assessment and planning.

The ref was deemed not good enough for prem at the minute and has been used predominantly as a VAR official he was given this big championship game to see where he was at in terms of officiating in Prem again and coming out of VAR booth, apparently he is one of the brightest up and coming referees lol. Think he will be stuck in a VAR booth for a bit longer as he could not manage or control that game and to be fair showed the ineptitude of the PGMOL and how poorly they have been run over the last few years. The officials have a false sense of superiority when in fact the most respected Refs tend to be more involved in the game and are more like one of the lads as it allows them to connect and understand the emotions of the game. This guy done neither and we ended up with a poor decision which ultimately led to a poor result for us.
You can spin it any way you like but that decision was not in the spirit of the game and there were a number of poor decisions for both teams and to be honest M'Boro should be celebrating a decisive victory which has really been stolen from them be a **** referee, we should not be talking about him and should be talking about the game he officiated (which in my opinion we were the slightly better team at that point), did he want centre stage, did he have something to prove to his bosses, was he briefed to stamp out any foul language, is there something else going on at PGMOL (pressure) because of the cock up at Spurs-Liverpool who knows as we will never be told which I guess is half the problem. I would have more respect if the ref just came out and told us the reasoning for his decision making so we could point out all the yellow cards he missed in the first half then maybe the standards would improve because at the minute the second rate premier league referee we got was not good enough for the second tier of English football.

Talking about yellow cards that were missed in the first half, the pull back on Clarke when he was away and play was waved on - any decent ref goes back and books the Boro player when play next stops. It wasn’t a difficult decision. Very poor to miss that and it added to the frustration of our lads.

their were a number of incidents which were not great mate and it was frustrating whilst watching and then compounded by the decision at half time. I get that people think DN gave him a decision to make but the reality is all he was doing is what he has done his entire football career. he did not storm to the ref with a load of other players he did not aggressively get in refs face and i will guarantee that he was not the only one on that pitch to swear. It was a poor decision by the ref and showed why he was not ready for that game. The PGMOL has to shoulder some blame for it and if this had been in the spotlight of the premier league they would have been put through the ringer by the press considering how much attention is on them at the minute. Ultimately we got one of the PGMOL's new recruits to ref a game he was ill equipped to referee and his only excuse was that DN swore at him. I guess that he does not know the difference between somebody using an expletive as a description and somebody using it as a personal insult. Again poor decision making
