Only Dan and Mundle worth a shirt today. We need to use rest of season to try some players and try some different approaches. That’s all I’m commenting on this one.
It's exactly the same as Bellingham last year. Played every minute to increase profile and ability to perform better next year. However, the here and how is suffering, the same as Bellingham last year.
Wouldn’t even say Mundle tbh, but he’s back from a lay off against a low block ****e to a man today no intensity. Off for a drink
With Rigg it's Jobe of last season all over again, he looks absolutely knackered and his confidence is low. Needs to be taken out of the firing line.
this was his problem at Lorient he had the benefit of the doubt with the lack of options, but deadwood has been shifted and he has genuine choice now.
Said it before. That starting XI is perfect for big games or ones where we’re on the back foot. For a game like today it’s totally wrong. Maybe if we’d scored in the opening flurry we could have managed it. Once we got bogged down RLB was stuck. No creativity in the middle and not enough energy. Even the 4-4-2 didn’t really sort us as we still couldn’t do anything centrally. I’m certain he’s got options he can use. He just chooses not to. Just have to hope that Le Fee isn’t seriously injured.
https://rokerreport.sbnation.com/20...ll-first-home-defeat-of-the-season-at-the-sol Anthony Patterson: 2/10 Did well to claw a couple of dangerous crosses out there were going in but absolutely hideous goalkeeping for the Hull goal which cost us the game. Trai Hume: 8/10 Dealt with the dangerous Barry easily and was our best hope going forward, he had a couple of great crosses that should have resulted in headed goals for Isidor and Jobe, then had a good shot saved late on. Dan Ballard: 6/10 Did well enough defensively while he was on and had a couple of headers at the opposition goal, although neither really troubled Hull. Went off with a hamstring injury shortly after the break. Luke O’Nien: 5/10 Very poor play just before the Hull goal, giving away the cheap corner. Played OK other than that, played a great ball wide to Roberts early on that the winger couldn’t get under control. Dennis Cirkin: 5/10 Looked a bit out of sorts, not much attacking thrust down the left and a little sluggish getting back when Hull were countering. Dan Neil (C): 5/10 Struggled to get a hold of the game, came into it more in the last 15 to 20 minutes with a bit more drive but too little, too late. Jobe Bellingham: 5/10 Anonymous for long spells, had a couple of chances, one at the edge of the box in the first half where he dawdled and then what should have been a headed goal but barely made contact. Chris Rigg: 4/10 A poor game, badly struggled on the ball with misplaced passes and falling over when well placed. Looks to be really struggling physically. Patrick Roberts: 5/10 Kept going until the end but nowhere near dangerous enough for most of the game, whistled a shot just wide with the last kick of the game. Enzo Le Fee: 5/10 Really struggled to make an impact today, very little came off for him and seemed to be holding his hamstring just before half-time and was subsequently replaced. Wilson Isidor: 4/10 We couldn’t get him into the game and he had one real chance to work with but unfortunately it was a great one, from Hume’s cross, that he headed wide when he should have scored. Substitutes Romaine Mundle: 6/10 Good to see him back and he provided a bit of extra directness down the left but to no avail. Chris Mepham: 6/10 Was comfortable after coming on with Hull mostly content to sit in for the three points. Eliezer Mayenda: 6/10 Provided a little bit extra thrust up top and steered a ball just wide from the edge of the box. Man of the Match: Trai Hume Can hold his held up today after many of his teammates struggled, easily got to grips with Louie Barry and had a comfortable time defensively after the winger was forced off. Was also our most likely to make something happen going forward with two crosses that should have seen us equalise with headers and then his own shot that was the most the goalkeeper was tested. please log in to view this image Photo by George Wood/Getty Images
Fair play to Hull. They had a good defensive shape that we struggled to get beyond. Isidor missed a golden chance, Patterson palmed a corner goalwards, Mayender pulled a shot and our best chances for a good delivery were from fullbacks who firmly had an off day delivery wise and Roberts who struggled to land a killer blow. You’ve got to give them credit - Isidor was toothless - but we had no quality today.
Poor day at the office. Credit to Hull, very well coached side. Thought some of their tactical choices outdid our tactical choices. Gelhardt was a thorn all day and exposed the left hand side first half. Crooks did a great job of coming into our deep midfield areas and closing passing options. Coyle pushed Le Fee out of the game. That Matazo in midfield was all energy and I was hoping for more of that from ours to match him. Jobe and Rigg didnt set the baseline against them first half. I may get grief here, but it is a long standing concern for me. We dont have anyone to hold the ball up and play off in games. It is a gap in our options. Today Wilson was beaten to the first ball too easily by their centre backs. It isnt about effort, it is about putting the body between the defender and the ball and he seems unable to get that right. When he takes his chances he makes up for that part of his game. Today he and Mayenda both missed the target when it should have been a goal. Roberts was poor, until last 10 mins when he suddenly put more balls in, and threaded a couple through. Not sure what it says about Poveda mind if he isnt hooked at 55 or 60 mins. I suspect RLB doesnt trust Poveda or Aleksic, or they get at least 15 mins you would think today. I have no douby Patto will be blamed for losing us a point today. I dont like that angle. You could argue Isidor and Mayenda cost us 3 by missing 2 great chances. Players make mistakes. The team couldnt dig Patto out of a hole today, shame. But lets not hammer the lad, he is our number 1 to the end of this season at least, needs our support. Wilson got it when he missed 2 pennos, lets give Patto it too.
It’s a structural problem. That XI is perfect for bigger games. There’s effort, discipline and a counter threat there. Against lesser lights, though, it’s just not right. No central creativity leaves Isidor peripheral. Add in the minutes those main players have played and it’s little wonder they look jaded. If he insists on that starting central three then against teams like Hull I’d be starting Mayenda. At least he’ll be involved. Better still I’d be looking at changing things centrally. The decision to let AA go out looks a mistake in my view. Even more so if ELF is done. We are still capable of grinding out three big games and getting over the line. The concern is how much damage we do before we get there - through burnout, loss of confidence or both.
Lack of creativity is a real problem still, especially in games where teams don't allow us to counter attack. 0.61 xG from open play at home against a team in a relegation fight.
cheers again RTB... no idea what to say about that, flat and slow, lost every 'scramble', slow to react when the ball came to them and despite being allowed to play 'keep-ball' a lot of the time i cannot remember a clear cut chance, just one or two close calls...only time we even looked close was when hume got on the ball and crossed. cannot blame hull as they need whatever points they can grab right now so the time wasting and dropping to the floor every couple of minutes was expected, they played a good game for themselves. really should have been a penalty, the ball travelled half way across the pitch and he watched it all the way, his arm was straight out in front and he stopped the ball reaching onien but that is me, really clutching at any straw available, we simply were not good enough. ref was ok i guess, being bad for both sides but seemed to lean towards them a bit (penalty shout aside) and allowed them a lot of time first half, should have laid the law down earlier. no MotM from me, there were a few that tried but most just did not turn up, could sling a few insults at some but that would make no difference, time for RLB to earn his coin.
