Roberts has been instrumental in allowing Hume to get forward which has been important. I watched the Sheff Wed game back and Roberts got through a lot of work much of it tracking back and delaying/denying crosses Sheff Wed had much more attacks down our left than our right … … playing two young lads would be dangerous imo, they often lose concentration and fail to track back. Roberts starts for me, we only need two or three goals so no need to go all out attack.
Like I have already said, I think he is back in form, his goals return needs to improve but the chaos he causes the opposition leaves space all over for others like you said Hume. When he gets the ball Hume, Jobe, Rigg all dart in and around him waiting for the ball to drop. I bet every fullback in the league hates playing against him
Agree but not sure either Wilson or Mayenda good enough in the air to replicate the Quinn Phillips set up, other than Mayenda against Sheffield Wednesday they both seem better on through balls rather than high crosses although could be interesting with low hard crosses into the box as well as through balls.
I don’t think we have one player, except Ballard and Mepham, good in the air … … and those two aren’t exactly convincing at attacking set pieces.
I'm sure you're right...and could never fault him on his effort....but his final ball decision making isn't always the best it could be.
Yes he does and no hes not , and never will imo. and two up front is the only alternative that I can see until we find a wide right man who delivers..
I agree playing two young lads assuming thats Mundle and Watson is a dangerous gamble we dont need to make at this time Cirkin has been poor defensively of late and that will no go unnoticed by opposing managers of the calibre SW have. Nothing to doo with Roberts imo.
Cannot wait to be traipsing across the bridge again for this match. Things aren’t going too well globally and this is one of those things in life to focus on. haway the feckin lads !
And that's the whole point. Football is supposed to lift us out of reality and be a break from everyday life ... ... those who agonise over every detail, injury and substitution are really missing the point, even though they'll never take a step back and think about it.
Grandson and me at this game. First one for a while, looking forward to it. Hopefully, we get a decent result. Salech seems to have found a bit of form and needs to be looked after. Still going for a home win but a nervy one since we haven't been relaxed at the end of a match at home since the start of the season . 2-1 to the lads
I hope they don't waste time like Hull, 2-1 Isidor and Mayenda. good attacking team that. they have Ramsey back though good player. i have an answer to time wasting, if a player sits/goes down he has a reserve player to come on in his place the 'injured' player goes off, he is not a sub he leaves the pitch when the other player comes back on(if he does) 5 secs for a throw in, 10 secs for a goal kick/free kick/corner, ball headed to goalie he takes 5 secs to kick it, if more than 10 secs for goal kick a penalty awarded to opposing team and a card to the goalie. A computer voice counts the time down.
Regis Le Bris' assurances to Chris Rigg over form https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...e-bris-assurances-chris-rigg-form-sunderland/ CHRIS RIGG has admitted that he is not happy with his current form – but Regis Le Bris has assured the teenager that he was always going to experience something of a stutter during his first full season in the senior ranks. "This is really Chris Rigg’s first season,” said the Sunderland boss. “It is a new experience for him. It is not unusual for a player like that to struggle a little bit at this stage of the season, after 35 games. “We spoke together last week. He said that he wasn’t happy about his game level, but I said ‘It is normal – you just have to adjust to this new experience.’ "As a club and as a staff, we have to create the right condition for him to be able to recover, then I am sure that he will find his best level again.” "With Dan and Jobe, the situation is a little bit different,” he said. “They are more mature and more experienced, even if they are still young. Jobe is still 19, but this is his second full season and that makes a bit of a difference. “I think that he has shown really good qualities. He maybe wasn’t always exactly where he would want to be, but he has maintained a very good performance level. He has never dipped too low, and that is probably just a case of him becoming more mature. "With that kind of foundation, you can go on and reach the next level. Jobe was able to do that, and I think that has been the case with Dan as well. Because of their experiences, they have learned how not to waste energy on the pitch like you do when you are younger. “I think for Riggy, we are still in that phase. Sometimes he could maybe make different decisions that result in the same outcome, but with less energy. We are here to help him with that, and I hope that we are able to manage all three players properly until the end of the season.” When it comes to the ability to manage the closing stages of matches, Le Bris felt that Neil and Bellingham both showed their value in the final few minutes of the win at Sheffield Wednesday. “Dan and Jobe were both very important in the closing stages of that game,” he said. “There were three or four moments where we needed them to manage the game properly. “There have been times this season when we have not done that, and we have spoken about the last ten minutes of different games, but I think that we made different decisions during the (Sheff Wed) game. “Even with young players on the pitch, we were much better, so that means that the right ideas have been shared. It is not just about seeing things on a screen or talking about it, though, you have to do it on the pitch when it counts. I think that Dan, especially, was very important during the closing part of the game.”
looks like Mayenda going to get dropped again for Isidor according to Nick Barnes should be playing them both together we really need to put a run together to get some form for the play offs
I'd have thought Porterfield rated a place on the front cover tbh ... ... certainly above Defoe who played less than a hundred games.
