Completely agree Smug, Hume had a brain fart giving the corner away, Ballard and Hemir were there to make first contact with the cross and Ballard completely missed his header. When your mate misses a header like that, the ball comes at you (O'Nien) out of nowhere and all you can do is react, not always controlled. McGuiness was very fortunate to make contact and it bounced off his head. That's football, it isn't an exact science.

When Mowbray sits them down and analyses the game O'Nien will not be the one who concerns him.

It was odd seeing Hume at fault against Cardiff, since he broke into the first team he's literally barely put a foot wrong. Been the definition of reliable.

I wonder if he's a bit tired, he looked it when he gave away the corner. He didn't play that badly in general but there were a few uncharacteristic mistakes.

I said at the start of this thread that we were fortunate to clear lots of second balls in the box at Blackburn and you can't rely on keeping doing it and low and behold we got stung against Cardiff...so really lads it's all my fault for mentioning it so best move on eh.

Your comment is from September, shame Mowbray/Beale didn't rate him as highy imo ...

... he can become a real Sunderland hero if we just play him and trust him.

With Ekwah doing a lot of hard graft, Neil making space and Aouchiche pulling defences all over the place it allows Rigg the room to develop imo.

I really had high hopes for Ba at this point of the season. Fast forward 7 months and my opinion has changed somewhat which is a shame. I love watching him with the ball at his feet, its what he chooses to do after that which is the big concern for me and his inability to convert chances when it looks easier to score sometimes than miss.

I initially put 2-1 down on the predictor but after Friday I am reverting to type and going for 5-1. Just maybe we have found our line up thats works and whether by fluke or design it looked bloody good.
Hoping Jobe gets a couple more and would love Hemir to get a goal. Not bothered who scores our other two <laugh>.

Cheers RTB we really are spoiled with the effort you put into these threads.

Sunderland: Adil Aouchiche hails Mike Dodds after tough spell

SUNDERLAND playmaker Adil Aouchiche has hailed interim head coach Mike Dodds for giving him an opportunity to showcase his ability after a difficult couple of months on Wearside.

The 21-year-old midfielder grabbed a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win at Cardiff City, impressing the travelling red and white army.

It's been a tough few months for the former PSG trainee, having fallen out of favour under former Sunderland boss Michael Beale after a disappointing cameo in the defeat to Ipswich Town, but has established himself as one of the first names on the team-sheet under Dodds in recent weeks.

“It was a really good game from the team, for me as well because I scored and gave an assist for Jobe,” Aouchiche told BBC Newcastle after Good Friday's game. “It’s the job of the number 10 in the team and for me it was a really good performance from the team.

“When the referee gave the penalty, I just took the ball and just not think. Just take the ball and be confident and I will score.”

Aouchiche made no mistake from the penalty spot, rifling the ball into the roof of the net to give Sunderland the lead and there was no letting up.

The Frenchman has shown signs of unlocking the door in the final third, and grabbed the assist for Jobe's seventh goal of the season.

“It was difficult when you are the player and only play a little bit,” Aouchiche said when looking back on his spell out of the side. “It's difficult for me. Now with Doddsy, he gave me a chance and I give him back. When he gave me the confidence, I can show my talent.”
