This wouldn't be such a bad idea lads. When i worked in Nigeria there was a good mix of Red & Black & Whites and all our old tops used to get given away to the local lads who worked for us, they used to fight like f**k over the shirts to the point where we used to have to take out extra to give to them all. You'd be amazed at how competetive they are with each other and this sort of thing would create a healthy rivalry resulting in more interest. The down side would be if we don't finish above them this season, they'd all want B&W shirts then.
N*wcastle shirts could be collected so there could be two teams! But we'd have to make sure the losing team was always the Skunks...
Better start of for a voulenteer, from our 606 site to step up and co-ordinate for us as we are both out of the country, so if anyone wants to put their name forward be my guest ill paste this message on the Africa thread also
No thanks jersy dont want skunks there, only the cream so when a really good one is picked up by our scouts he wants to sign for us as he will have the love of the team
I work in Africa, Nigeria, Equatorial Gunea, Angola, Cameroon and you wouldn't beleive how many Sunderland shirts you come across, there really is a lot out there, don't know if it's people like me who hand down their old shirts or organisations like Oxfam who ship all manner of clothing over there. It all ends up on local markets and snapped up by the locals. I think now that we have a large African contingent within the club there will be a bigger focus on us from over there. I know i've mentioned it under another thread but there was a TV crew following us around on a recent Legends Tour of the Stadium with Jimmy Monty and the sole aim was to broadcast it in Africa and South America to help promote the good ship SAFC. I was tiold it will be broadcast by Sky but not in the UK, Europe wpould be the nearest we would get to seeing it. Point of it is that I think the club are thinking along the same lines as us and the big push is happening. Hi all My name is Chris Ford, I was the TV crew that followed Jimmy around and as the poster rightly said we are regularly sending material over to Africa for the new Premier League TV Channel. We would definitely be interested in covering this if it gathered pace so feel free to PM and we'll try and set something up. Many thanks Chris
Aye, i've got some old gear that could be far better being put to good use that sitting in the attic, where am i sending it ?
thanks chris would love to have you on board. Have a bit of a tight day tommorow but will contact you privatley on this board when i get home.
Wow, this is really gathering steam! Maybe we could set up an academy outpost in Kenya... or am I looking a bit too far forward!
Hi Chris, it was me you spoke to that day, the one with the biscuit if you remember? Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated, maybe a point of contact within the club, someone we can pass all this on to. We're trying to get the club onboard but finding it difficult to get hold of anyone, we all know that they have very busy schedules and different priorities to ours but even if you could point us in the right direction as to who would be best to approach, that would be great. No need to broadcast if you don't want, just PM me and i promise to get back to you.
Although that I agree with the sentiments and well meaning behind this, I feel that I have to say that the idea is by ne means unique, and I know that certain charitable organizations have been involved in this before, as have some football clubs. What I will say is that with our very high profile African players, it is an excellent time to push this to maximise our exposure in that part of the world...
I don't think anyone is claiming it as a unique idea RAW, just some footy fans on a forum putting forward some ideas. On a side note BB it may be worthwhile cleaning up this thread as soon as possible. Just in case one of the contacted persons come to browse it.
what size do you want childrens or adults because if its a kids team and we give them adults shirts then that whould not be so great
I would suggest David Milliband Syd ....community projects /Foreign Office history/International Development remit .....lets have Mensah concentrating on getting fit (smile) ....we can always have John for photo calls !!!!....... and its not a daft idea.....I think it would be just the kind of thing Milliband would like to give time and exposure to......
This whole thread is very inspiring. It makes you pleased and proud to be a Sunderland fan. I do hope the club respond to BB, as I would be very disapoined and let down if they did not at least respond; even if they can't get on board at this stage, but at least respond and maybe give pointers. Well done lads and I am sure this will take off regardless. Have got a couple of tops I could donate and will gladly but a new one.
We're not at the stage off collecting the shirts yet but i guess any would be welcome. I'm sure after looking at the response we've had we should be able to cater for all sizes so keep em coming lads.
Brilliant idea lads I hope that your idea is embraced by SAFC . It's a great way to promote the club and give people the chance to get invloved where opportunities can be scarce. I think the idea could apply to many areas in the world -logistics allowing of course. Will watch developments with great interest
