Fake STs and black balloons was the *surprise* today. You picked the right club Roland. About 1,000 at the demo. No anger whatsoever, sadly.
Like our season, the protests go out in a damp squib. Throwing things on the pitch has been done to death. It was done to death by the time throwing taxis had come around. Time to disband. People as apathetic at the protests as they are the club. Too many parallels between the two.
CARD getting stick on Twitter. "Was that it?" and "overhyped" Surely they have got something planned for the game ?
i guess there still might be something in the west lower, so will refrain from being too critical as things stand, but people have traveled in good faith - spending hard earned money - to support a coalition who decided upon themselves to take lead on protests. They argued that standing outside at 5pm shouting at Meire was stale and repetitive - yet we are given a different utensil every time to throw on the pitch. After heavy funding. It's played out. The whole "what if there was no CARD to organize the protests" has a familiar ring to it. "What happens if Roland sells up, who pays the bills" etc. Parallels.
The anger has totally drained from our remaining fan base. Very depressing. You picked the right club Roland.
How is it even possible to throw a fake season ticket on the pitch if you are more than two rows back?! It would barely travel a metre! If you have to screw it up or make a plane out of it, surely then it loses its symbolism?! Someone should throw Everett on the pitch instead.
List of ideas has seemingly been replaced by a list of things to throw on to the pitch. So, so uninspiring.
Hit him in the pocket and boycott where possible. For those that don't - they can not buy merchandise, not buy the overpriced food or drink, not buy programmes... Make them feel uncomfortable. The Belguim protests have them unsettled. Make them feel our discontent. I know it is not eveyones cup of tea, and some people may think of it as a step too far, but I honestly think we are 3 or 4 years away from doing an 'Orient and dropping out of the league altogether.
Arrived behind the North Stand for 10.50am. Around 300 protesters there. An old boy in CARD regalia was handing out balloons. I asked him what was going on & declined a balloon. He replied that there was an announcement at 11. That time came and went with no announcement. We then all moved around to the West Stand. Around 600-700 by this stage. Some very half hearted chanting started. I exchanged greetings with Elfs, who was acting as a CARD helper and giving out the "surprise" - fake season tickets to throw onto the pitch. What jolly japes! Even Elfs admitted they were not the best. 10 mins of very muted chanting later, people were openly asking if this really was it ? Ben Tegg asked folk to sit down and block the car park entrances - another stale idea. 99% ignored him. Inside the ground itself, buying tickets for the Lower West turned out to be utterly pointless for those who did. Nothing happened. At full time a few of our younger fans broke the cordon and got onto the pitch, again there was a complete absence of anger. CARD promised us an "endgame" today. They delivered balloons and bits of paper to throw onto the pitch. They nauseate me, but I cannot say I am surprised. Anyone donating another penny to CARD next season must be mad.
Got to the protest about 1105, and had the pleasure of a good chat with a man who has been supporting Charlton for 83 years. He didn't join in the chanting but the point is he was there. I believe that apart from half a dozen ITTV stalwarts, about 99% of Charlton fans want Roland to sell up. As of yet though none of us has found a way to force him out. And I also think the club is prepared to live with large scale fan dissatisfaction. I was told that Roland is losing an absolute fortune, although we can easily guess that, and with no more Lookmen on the horizon he will lose a heck of a lot more. And still he won't sell. B20 must be the way to go, especially if they can get an increase on the 270 who went last time, and if there is the prospect of continued Belgian trips. At the last one he failed to appear after the St Truiden game, which was very unusual for him I am told, so he was affected. As SuperC said, let's hope they stay free from CARD.
B20 did a brilliant job of organising the last one, and everything was out in the open. As long as it stays that way....................................................................
