My mate, who for his sins, is a lifelong championship midtabler... err Ipswich supporter, Like to keep reminding me that the team top and Christmas normally don't go up. I personally CBA to check this out as Iâm too busy reminding him who is top
I was roughly in agreement with the Telegraph about our position, but secretly thought we'd be a bit higher, though not top. Whoever did this table knew little about the Championship though. We all knew Pompey were struggling, so why didn't they?
2010/11, top of the league as of December 28th was QPR. They won the league. 2009/10, top of the league as of December 28th was Newcastle. They won the league. 2008/09, top of the league as of December 28th was Wolves. They won the league. 2007/08, top of the league as of December 29th was WBA. They won the league. 2006/07, top of the league as of December 30th was Birmingham. They didn't win the league...but they got promoted automatically nonetheless. Sunderland, which had been 12th at the time, put together an incredible stretch of 16 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss to edge Birmingham out for the title. In other words, your friend couldn't be more wrong...being top of the table at Christmas has been as good an indicator that you're going up as can be imagined.
We are on fire at the moment but I'm trying to keep my feet on the floor. Let's get through January and see where we are and if anyone has left. I sort of worry about some dodgy agent offering 50k a week salary to someone. We also need to know what happens when we/if we lose 3 in a row.
this was thier opinion With the likes of Alex Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert, will not want for attacking options. Jack Cork is also an exciting signing from Chelsea. But they will find the Championship punishes their occasional defensive lapses more harshly. Will beat some superb teams, but also lose to some abject ones. pretty spot on - not the position and young oxo obviously. if we had not signed jos then we would have struggled, loosing to bad teams- bristol city anyone
