But how many strikers do you see in the lower leagues score for fun, get picked up by a prem team and all they do is sit in reserves and get occasional appearence in the first team?
The difference between Rhodes and, say, Beckford or Mackail-Smith is that Rhodes is young and still improving.
Real talent. Would like him a lot.

He scored something like 4 hat tricks already this season and over 20 goals, surely worth a shot?

Scoring lots of hat tricks can actually fudge the figures slightly, particularly in lower leagues. Of his 22 goals, if 13 were scored in 4 games then it could be the case that over 50% off his goals have come in games against ver, very weak opposition. Kris Boyd is a prime example of this, SPL top scorer of all time, never scored against Celtic, not even good enough for the Championship.

He's still very young though, as opposed to players like Beckford, Lambert etc who are prolific at lower level. We have a limited budget, he's the sort of player we could be taking a gamble on.

Some of the goals he's scored too are top drawer, he's a natural goalscorer and will only improve with age.

I'd take Jordan Rhodes definitely, although i'd rather a decent big striker, as Ba plays a lot better when he's not forced to be the target man. Saying that we could definitely do with another small striker besides Lovenkrands!

Rhodes is 6'2" (roughly Ba/Shola's height), although no idea if he uses his height effectively.

I know it can be deceiving when footballers in lower leagues have good records, and you wonder whether they can step up, but Rhodes currently has more goals than he has appearances this season. BETTER than 1 in 1.

Even if his goalscoring ability halved by moving up to the more difficult Premier League, he would still be a very prolific 1 in 2 striker, with room to still improve as a player.
