Fingal Bay makes that market and I don't think he can win. Never run on heavy. Ran out LTO. Jumped left markedly LTO. Has to overcome a 15 month absence. Still rated 142. Who is taking 3/1 about that in a handicap? Whoever it is needs to give up punting even if he wins the race.
Morning all. Most of my selections already mentioned but really looking forward to seeing how Lyreen Legend goes in the Irish Hennessy. Travels and jumps well and will come on a bundle from his solid effort in the Lexus. The fav First Lieutenant seems better on decent ground so it's a winnable race. Chocola in the listed novice hurdle looks a standout bet and will love the going. Guitar Pete to turnover the Mullins and O'Brien hotpots and finally Quel Esprit in the Hunter Chase. Good luck all
I always thought his best performances came on soft and his action is more that of a soft ground horse. I think his jumping to the left and running out LTO was due to his injury (sustained during that race if I recall correctly). But you're right, 3/1 in a Pertemps Qualifier after that absence is a nonsense price. I just hope he gets a nice blow and can get to the festival for either the Pertemps Final or possibly World Hurdle (which I admit would be a massive ask).
Agree entirely and I was looking to get him beat. Plumped for TOP GAMBLE as he has form on heavy and has lots of scope for improvement having only had four runs. The other interesting one is IMPERIAL LEADER as his second to IRISH SAINT reads very well.
I don't understand that race, why is Return Spring double figures yet Fingal Bay and If In Doubt less than half his price? Return Spring and QDT pulled so far away from the field at Cheltenham, in what is a good handicap, and whilst he has gone up in the weights, its not as if he doesn't deserve to be competitive off this mark. Am I missing something?
I hope return spring gets lots of drift nass nice and ew friendly with question marks on 75% of the field as bob mentioned how the hell is fingal bay the favourite very very opposable in my eyes
I'm not sure why people think Fingal Bay shouldn't or wouldn't be favourite. His best form is in a completely different league to this lot and he has won first time out every year. Yes last time out he ran a stinker and then ran out but he sustained an injury during the race so that run can be ignored. Don't forget, he was the last horse to beat Simonsig! I'm not betting in the race but I think he is by far the most likely winner. Even if he doesn't win he is too good a horse to be running in the pertemps race at the festival
These are what i fancy today: 1:25 Exeter - Silvergrove 14/1 & Wilde and Willing 14/1 1:35 Southwell - Dontpaytheferryman 11/2 2:55 Exeter - If In Doubt 6/1 3:15 Leopardstown - Star of Aragorn 20/1 3:50 Leopardstown - Tidal Bay 11/4 & Texas Jack 16/1 4:20 Leopardstown - James 16/1 4:50 Leopardstown - Vigil 7/2 & Volvalien 5/1 EW singles, doubles, trebles and rev f/c on the three races i've got two in
I'm not saying he should or shouldn't be favourite. I'm saying he's a terrible price who's simply unbackable at 3/1. A lot of his form isn't rock solid and if you take his run against Simonsig out the hurdle form only really warrants a mark around the low 140's. We've seen a long distance hurdler return recently from a similar break and he ran 2 stone below form. If Big Bucks couldn't hit his peaks on day 1 why would anyone take 3/1 Fingal Bay will on ground he's raced on once and completely bombed on.
Fingal bay is a class above most of these but untested at distance let alone the bottom less conditions if fingal stays the win is there but with two massive question marks and rubbish odds of 3s to me its an easy way to burn money
As anyone with memory will attest, I know next to nothing about the hunt scene. But I'd love to see Pandorama run a nice race in the Hunter Chase at Leopardstown. Probably a few in the race who will lack the class to even get close, so I'm hoping he might be able to sneak into the money.
Is it really that good a card at Leopardstown? Four egg and soon grade o nes. One a three horse race and one that a thirteen year old from the UK is likely to win. Its no wonder these Irish horses break records for numbers of graded races won! Throws grenade and doffs tin hat!
