Red Giant @ 14/1 3:10 Perth

The shrewd Jenny Candlish sends this C/D winner on the 600+ miles round trip to Perth for their Gold. Cup. He's very well handicapped having gone off 2nd. Fav for this very race last year off a 12lbs higher mark he's also 4lbs lower than for his C/D win last April. Was given a spin over this course LTO over an inadequate 2 1/2M and appears to have been laid out for this pot was available @ 33/1 on Friday so the cash is down.

Good Luck if you play <ok>

You have selected probably the most competitive race of the day to pick one in buddy, respect. The race is named after Sam Moorshead who was a fine jockey and one of the best Clerk of Courses we have seen. He was an outstanding gentleman and died a lot too young sadly. The race today is chock full of horses hitting their best form, horses benifitting from wind ops and a couple who are very well in on their marks. Obvious chance yours so lets hope for you that he is on a going day, best of luck mate.

Really interesting looking race this and in the end couldn't decide who to back so left it alone from a betting perspective. Really wouldn't be surprised to see Soupy Soups run well..

Morning all..two bets for me today:

Perth 2.05pm Guardia Top 7/2 win. Gets a lot of weight from her rivals..should appreciate the ground more this time being able to get her toe in and is back down in trip. Comes up from the Hawke stable...that's around a 1500 miles round trip. Big run expected.

Goodwood 2.25pm The Cruising Lord 14/1 each way. Very well handicapped, drawn well and has the excellent Tom Marquand on board. Providing he handles underfoot conditions must go close.

Good luck all..:emoticon-0167-beer:

Fair play to ITV for showing 3 races from Perth today. That and an early mountain stage in the Tour should make for a great afternoon's viewing.

Lucinda Russell should have a good day at Perth - she had a hat-trick on their card on August 11th - although she did have a staggering 16 runners <yikes> but relies on just 10 today. Anyway we all like a trier <ok> and the ones who could add to her tally today are Lucky Flight (2.05), Gemologist (3.50) and Vino's Choice (4.25).

Stick - the ex-Joseph O'Brien horse should take all the beating in the bumper?

In spite of the great weight gain I stay with Imada, I have a bet 3/1.

No bet for me today. For some interest i've just had a go at the ITV7:

1:50 Goodwood - Ice Sprite
2:05 Perth - Scardura
2:25 Goodwood - Atalanta's Boy
2:40 Perth - Imperial Elysium
3:00 Goodwood - Al Madhar
3:15 Perth - As You Like
3:35 Goodwood - Escobar

Two of my "cliff horses" Pops. I couldnt agree more regarding The Cruising Lord BUT as you say the massive question mark is the ground!

Quick correction on the miles round trip in my original post..I think its more like 750/ 760 miles as I m sure trainer will only go up and down once..lol. Too many Amstels last night!!

I must say i am really keen on the jockey booking for the Cruising Lord. That is likely to be a big help and at a tricky track like Goodwood also a plus..

Could be a good day at Perth for Nigel Hawke (25 % win / 25 % places at the track over the last 5 seasons). His Mead Vale is 2 lb below last winning mark and didn't run bad after a break when in with a place chance until weakening 2 out. Should strip fitter today. Jockey David Noonan has ridden Mead Vale 2 times ( 3rd and unseated the 2nd time in early part of the race). Stable amongst the winners recently.

Hope I don't mogador Pop's selection, but I like Guardia Top too in the 14:05 at Perth. The bottom weight has a big chance in this event. Ignoring Goodwood betting-wise today as anything I touch gets locked-in with nowhere to go! Excuses, excuses! :emoticon-0100-smile

SET IN STONE 16/1 Perth 1.00
Was giving weight and a fitness advantage to Chosen Flame here last time out but will strip fitter this time and the revised terms put this one in with a fair shout at fancy odds. Has some fair form on the level and this is only the fifth start over timber so some improvement should still be in the locker.

Cracking shout well done

Not a bad start to the day, cheers Stick.
