Evening, all. I'm not fond of Wolverhampton, mostly because of its history of improbable results and inexplicable betting markets. But you've got to do something on a wet Sunday in January, and the Cl.7 5f handicap at 3.40 catches my eye. Milton Bradley's last seven runners have started at 33-1, 50-1, 16-1, 20-1 (that one won), 12-1, 150-1 and 80-1. He's got two in this, and Autumn Splendour is ridden by Raul da Silva, who was on the 20-1 winner.

It's rated 50. which probably tells you all you need to know, and ran in a Cl.6 at Southwell a few days ago, which it was never going to win. This race could be run to suit him, though, he's drawn well, and these are a desperate lot, so I make him the likeliest winner. Around 9-2 as I post mid-evening on Saturday, but it's never wise to bet here if you can't monitor the markets in the last two minutes before the off, so tread warily.

I'm a few years older than Milton, and I've watched his running-patterns fairly carefully. We share initials and - apparently - dodgy hip-joints (tell me about it, son), so I'm hopeful that I'm on his wavelength.

Off to Ayr today, not the most appealing card in the world with quite a few small field races and short prices but should still be a good day anyway.

Elliott sending a few over so will likely bag himself a winner or four, some of them looking a bit too short for me though.

The only one thats stood out to me so far is Diamond Brig(2:25), obviously had problems having had almost 2 years off before last months comeback so will have needed that run, so will take a chance its ready to go better this time. Top jockey booked also.

Anyone with any fancies for Ayr?

Canford Bay in the 3:10 is my bet of the day, drawn nicely and should get a lead into the race from the jolly. Hopefully they go a shade fast on the front and he can outstay them in the last 100 yds

Not much of a price but i really fancy Glinger Flame to turn over the favourite in the 1:50. Also Emma Beag in the last but that looks a pretty competitive race.

    Enjoy your day

In Thurles 13.35 Paul Townend has chosen Monkfish but Vis Ta Loi 5/1 may surprise. Won his maiden and then two third places in Grade races. 40/1 for Albert Bartlett.

Who is going to Superbowl LIV in Miami Gardens?

The NFC Championship game features the top two seeds with the Green Bay Packers going to Santa Clara to face the San Francisco 49ers. Neither of these teams fit the bill from the old days of Candlestick Park. We remember the 49ers of the Montana/Young era and Fabre’s Packers. Two teams known for their offense.

The 2019/20 49ers are a running team with a strong defence. Whilst QB Jimmy Garoppolo gets the job done, his role is to not lose the game. The Packers are the second seed but a quick look at their record this season shows how many moderate rivals they have faced plus they were routed by the 49ers in week 12. 49ers reject Aaron Rodgers does not have the tools around him of previous years and the defence does not match up well with the 49ers. They need to stop the run and force Garoppolo to throw and hope Rodgers has a stellar game.

From a betting point of view, this game has upset possibilities so the seven point start makes Green Bay the play to keep it close if they have a good game plan. Green Bay +7½.

The AFC Championship game sees the second seed Kansas City Chiefs entertain the sixth seed Tennessee Titans. Current NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes is a point scoring machine but on the other side of the ball is the NFL’s top-ranked running back Derrick Henry. The Titans only previous visit to the big game saw them stopped one yard from victory at the turn of the century and to get to Miami Gardens, Henry is going to have to churn out the yards. Tennessee have dispatched the defending champion Patriots and the number one seed Ravens to get here but can they corral Mahomes? The key to this may be turnovers – the Titans scored a pick-six against Tom Brady and got the ball off Lamar Jackson three times. Mahomes shredded Tennessee in their regular season game but lost.

It is not inconceivable that the Titans can keep this close, especially if the Chiefs start badly as they did against the Texans. I am loathe to back a team to score big points back-to-back and coach Andy Reid’s dire record in Championship games (W1 L5) is off-putting but if the Chiefs get early scores on the board, the Titans will struggle to play catch up, so I am going with Kansas City -7.

    Thurles 1.00 Poets Mountain ew

Hinted a bit of promise in 2 of 3 runs last Summer. Has been given some time now and it will be interesting to see if the horse shows more today.

At Wolverhampton Tigray looks to have a nice each way chance in the opener given he didn't run that bad on last try at this track.

Has ran well at this track more than one time without winning. Every chance today off this low mark.

DALI MAIL confirmed the promise of his useful hurdling efforts last Season with a nice win over fences at newcastle last time out, and, given the manner of his Victory there, should have the measure of glinger flame again.

I'm taking you on with Saint Freule. Backed the horse when it won at Hexham 2 runs ago and could return to winning ways today.

In the 3.00 at Ayr I really like King Golan racing off a mark only 1lb higher than when winning at Hexham last september. Proven at the distance another plus. Could outrun big odds.

No quarrel with your selection, Nass, but it might be instructive to watch the relative runnings of Canford Bay and Brittain's other entry Tathmeen, who's lurking at the bottom of the weights. Tathmeen was caught in traffic at the start of his last run (Newcastle, Jan..9th) and the jockey then took a while to get him organised. Unless I've misread the sectionals, his final two furlongs that day were - for this level - really quite striking. Watch and learn, maybe, and good luck with yours..

The market's showing no love at all for Autumn Splendour, and I don't think I'll play.

ifs and buts About most of These, but i go with the Daddy of them all,SAMSTOWN,to back up his last success today.hadnt won for ages before,so thats a slight worry, but that last win came in the Peter marsh chase in 2015 off a mark of 135.much reduced mark now,and there seems to be still some life in the old Body.good Chance in an open race.
