doubt that joe , the dealers generally like to keep a low profile , with gangs of lads one or two of them will buy enough for all their mates , this way they get theirs for free , their mates cover the cost , on their way to an event they will stop at pubs , have a toot , repeat ......at races you can drink as much as you want during the hours of the event : at football it’s much more restricted and not during the game , racing for lots of these people isn’t anything to do with the horses , that’s just a side show , and of course in that volatile atmosphere things can escalate very quickly.......
good call, mate! navan,2 20: OFF YOU GO is a fast improver, even though its a big ask to take the next step from handicaps into graded company.but he can only progress further as hes still young enough to do just that.so,he gets my vote here..
After timing police want to question you Chelsea! In all seriousness Tiger Roll some horse for connections, wins over hurdles and fences at any distance, can't ask for more than that!
navan,3 25: ANY SECOND NOW is another, who steps up in class today, and he ran a respectable race last time out,in the paddy power handicap.also still fairly treated for that,so with a bit of improvement very possible, can run a big race here..
Just want to highlight that this sort of behaviour is not the norm. It's a minority that attend racing. All groups of lads are not attending racing having snorted a few lines of coke! Those people identified as being involved in the brawl at Haydock should be banned from the course for life.
it’s not the norm of course , but neither is it uncommon , especially on sat meets , when the weather is mild , and as pointed out ,usual attractions like footie are not on , hence the increases during the summer months. I won’t go to sat meetings at Bangor , stag do mobs , lots of boorish behaviour that detracts from the race day experience , maybe because everyone is in the same enclosure , but why bother going when a much better time can be had during the week ?
I beg to differ. It is becoming a frequently occurring phenomena. I have witnessed similar behaviour at York and Chester where I have to say there seems to be coaches of lads looking for trouble from the word go. I also witnessed a fair sized brawl at the Cheltenham Festival last season!
I personally think it is uncommon Rudey. How many race meets are there on a Saturday in a year and how many are there with trouble? I have never seen any trouble at a racecourse and it's not like I only go to only one meeting a year. Take yesterday's brawl at Haydock involving 50 people. You can guarantee at least half of those weren't looking for trouble but probably got caught up in it yet there would have been thousands of people at Haydock yesterday. I really don't think this is as bad as what it is being made out to be. Media spotlight just happens to be on it as this time...
I have never seen any trouble at the Cheltenham festival. What identifies coach loads of men looking for trouble? And how do you know if they actually cause any trouble? Presumably you are there to enjoy the racing and day out as opposed to watching what groups of men are doing? Sorry stick but I really think this is over hyped as a problem. It's a minority...
If you’re at any event , it’s not hard to pick up toxic atmospheres , if they’re there , most of us recognise it , all animals have these senses , to keep denying it won’t make it less or more frequent , chester has many sat meets in the summer , i’ve experienced the train back with some of the groups who’ve been overindulging , it’s not nice , and involves intimidation/ racist remarks / sexist behaviour , the full monty of boorishness , conwy rail station has bouncers on the platform fri and sat nights !
I think it’s changed dramatically in last ten years, so much so that I won’t go to places like Glorious Goodwood in the summer. If I do go racing in big meetings I try to avoid the silver ring tickets, which is ridiculous really
I'm with you on this. I go quite a lot to race meetings in Yorkshire and the North and have never seen any trouble
