One horse I can't ignore today is Charles O'Brien's Pop Art (3.40) at a tempting 8/1. She had an awful start in her maiden and had to be nudged along to keep in touch at the back of the field. She came from lastg to first over the 6f and won going away. The number of lengths she made up on very good animals MOTH (3rd) and WANNABE BETTER(4th) was astounding and to win going away was brilliant. We know Moth has improved since then after her ultra-impressive comeback last week but even though she was green that day, to beat Moth after that start was a brilliant effort. Wannabe Better has franked that form by being a clear 2nd behind Moth last week so the form looks to have some real substance to it. Remember that SLOPE (2nd) and WANNABE BETTER had already had racecourse experience going into that so Pop Art could really be a surprise package this season if improving for that first run. Pop Art ought to improve for the step up to 7f and the booking of Jonny Murtagh is eyecatching.
Hello Lads. Happy birthday Wooly!...have a great day mate. Hows the young Aidan fella? Off for a study...some decent sports action today.
Quite like Bolgers Move To Strike @ 7/2 in the 2.35 At Leopardstown, especially with the fitness proviso's emanating from B'doyle re the fav. Hosed up in maiden company before getting being a beaten fav at RA after running quite free.Undoubtedly better than that and won't lack for fitness today. I find Justification in the 5.15 at Leopardstown a fascinating runner. An 86 rated 5-y-o gelding being kept in training by this operation is intriguing. Reminds me a little of Robin Hood who won a h'cap in 2012,after missing a full season, for todays connections before taking up pacemaking duties. I suspect the same fate awaits this chap after today but I wouldn't be surprised if he's better than 86 and am going to have a few quid on at 5/1 GL everyone.
They say they could have been doing with another week with Pop Art Toppy, and being an Excellent Art she might be best on soft ground. I agree tho, very impressive what she done first time out, although Moth looks to have improved about 2 stone. She is one to watch out for, really interesting race that trial. Ground soft according to Gary Obrien, looking at gd to yielding on ATR earlier
Cheers dex! Not been great has been in hospital this week witha virus been on a frip we were very worried and so were the docs but am home now and recovering very well so am getting back to his normal cheeky self
Couple of nice 2-y-o's there..three actually. Interesting to see B'doyle's Michaelmas is by Darley stallion Elusive Quality....a further thawing in relations between the super powers?
