I put KILBREW BOY (4:15 NA) up the last day and although he ran ok I was dissappointed that he couldnt win off that mark. He is 2lb less today so I should really fancy him more but today he switches to hurdles, I have a real dislike of horses reverting to hurdles as I think going chasing blunts their speed over the smaller obstacles. I am probably totally wrong. Anyway, I have backed him today, I took 16's last night and am pleasantly surprised to see market support, best now 11/1.
Nice little bumper to finish the card and let us hope that we dont see a repeat of yesterdays mass defections. The standout pedigree in the race for me is ONE FOR YOU who is a half brother to the very useful chaser Monalee. That is a pedigree that looks stamina laden so it could well be that he will come into his own when tackling further rather than bumpers. He has also already had a wind op which sets a few alarm bells ringing. Another nice and more bumper related pedigree belongs to OPTIMUS PRIME. His dam won a bumper at the first time of asking for Seamus Mullins. He is her first progeny to see a racecourse so it will be interesting to see how he goes. He was being punted to win on debut recently before an abandonement took place so I am surprised to see him drifting. Both are 9/1 so its possible to back both ew without feeling a total fraud.

PETTOCHSIDE 16/1 Goodwood 3:25
The old boys career is having something of an Indian Summer. He loves it at the track, 7 wins and 9 place efforts. Goes really well for Hollie and is still very capable off this mark. He often seems overpriced to me as I think bookies have/had written him off and again today at 16/1 looks stonking good value. Using the 365 each way extra you can even take 6 place at 11/1 which could be around his SP in my opinion.

Morning all...2 bets for me today:

Newton Abbot 1.45pm The Mick Preston 13/2 each way
Newton Abbot 2.45pm Al Dancer 11/4 win. One of my favourite horses in training. Goes well fresh and extra distance could well be making of him. Slight worry no hood applied but I have always rated this horse as a top notcher.

Good luck all!:emoticon-0167-beer:

Surely the question of the day is: "Can Master Tommytucker put in a clear round?"
Could well be Oddy but I have always rated Al Dancer as a top notcher and first run of season could be good time to catch him. The Hobbs horse could be one to improve also. Both have a couple of years on the Tommytucker. I am expecting Al Dancer to be ridden positively, to go at quite a pace, lead and put the others to the jumping test, on a course that has tight turns,

Poor day for me yesterday, Didtheyleaveuoutto prime example of a horse who has fallen several times before..new season.. puts in a howler 3 out. Often you see horses just repeat similar mistakes again and again..season debut for the Tommytucker so he might not be razor sharp.

My ultimate cliff horse Didtheyleaveuoutto - at least it looked like his engine was still in tact. Good luck with Al Dancer <ok>

Nichols just said on ATR Tommytucker has done a lot of jumping at home so no excuses. Has had a breathing op as he thinks that was why he was fzlling late on in races.

To be fair and I think someone else said this on here but Nicholls gives wind ops to everything in the yard...including the cat so I wouldn't read too much in to that..:emoticon-0128-hi:

Yep he could have won the race as looked to be cruising but he didn't jump all the obstacles. The Tommytucker needs to be able to get the other side of each obstacle put in his way and I feel Al Dancer is gonna set a good pace in this race today. Has a very high cruising speed..

It doesn't neccesrailry blunt their running speed, Stick, but you find with some horses that it can cause them to take a bit more of a leap at the hurdle than needed and therfore decreasing their fluency of achieving maximum speed to get from A to B in a quicker time. It's often easy to spot a hurdler who has been doing more schooling over fences during races as you can see the tendency to give the hurdle a bit more respect than it needs, when a horse can do that and win you should definitely take note. Also, some horses are not affected by schooling over fences or hurdles and can take to either discipline like a fly to ****, all depends on the equids themselves, some are better coordinated than others.

6/5 for a clear jumping round to collect? Fingers crossed the 4th last doesn't catch him today.

Nice to see some of the better quality horses making a return to the track

Another nice exercise round for Flic Ou Voyou there - fair play to Nicholls for turning him out again, he looked to really enjoy that <ok>

Well done Pops on Al Dancer.

I'd be reaching for blinkers with Master Tommytucker, I think he has a small concentration issue.

I would be changing the jockey first. Not blaming Cobden at all but to me he needs something different and a certain jockey at that yard would be an ideal choice to give it a go.
