Think today wasn't his cup final Dex ...................... wasn't knocked around. Thought he was going to win at the last but McNamara didn't go for a big one and he faltered after that.
Yeah seemed little rusty Oddy but jumped and travelled well in the main....still a disappointed he didn't win though. Next stop the festival.
Just looking and the bumper at Leopardstown and noticed Jessica Harrington's gelding Rearview represents that very good bumper form behind Thomas Edison and Champagne Fever. Possibly needed that run and at around 7/1 makes more appeal than the first 2 in the market.
Fair play, he was entitled to be bang there having close form with all the main horses and its not a huge upset but I couldnt have backed him today. I backed him the day he came cantering all over Darroun and was dissappointed that he lost that race, he has ability, is consistent and is a decent jumper, so cant begrudge him the win.
I'm about an hour late but well done all us Quel Esprit backers The result was never likely to shake up the Gold Cup market but it was nice to see him put in an exhibition of jumping at the top level Last Installment again showed he's the best jumper in the staying novice division and at least looks capable of giving Grands Crus a race in the RSA. He mightn't set the 'world on fire' as some have said but I can certainly understand those with the viewpoint that he's a safer bet than Grands Crus given he's guaranteed he'll stay on when most of the field have cried enough AND he's less likely than Grands Crus to hit the deck....I really like Grands Crus loads, and think he'd go close in the GC, but a small part of me screams he's an accident waiting to happen. Last Installment certainly has enough about him to give the grey a race up the hill at the business end should Grands Crus jumping hold up...
I must say Dancers Dilemma is a fascinating runner in the bumper for Dermot Weld. Now owned by Noel Furlong (Destriero fame) he cost a few bob initially and is bred to run in classics rather than bumpers. On his only run he was third behind the classy Loosen My Load. His price probobly reflects his connections rather than anyhting else although he must have ability for them to have persevered so long. Watching brief only for me....especially after doing my pocket money in the hunter chase!!
Regardless of what people think, this lad speaks a lot of sense and can substantiate his claims, people around here shouldnt get all judgemental and let people air their views jus because they are not part of the everyday crew. If you notice there are around 7 to 8 people who post everyday let others have their say or is this not a democratic board where regulars cannot speak up, 606 went teh same way bully boy tactics wont work.
I personally don't understand why anyone thinks Grand Crus would be in with a shout in the Gold Cup. Yes, if he'd battered everything in the Staying Hurdle division last year I could agree with it but all he was capable of doing was forcing Big Bucks to run to 174 when he himself only ran 169. When they met at Aintree the gap was massive. He definitely didn't reach the standard of his Cheltenham run on that second meeting. Obviously those ratings are big and warrant loads of respect but why does that mean he's going to be able to improve again for fences to be good enough to beat Kauto and Long Run? I don't really understand the reasoning based on what i've watched this season.
Won't stay either Quel imo...blew out both times tried at 3m+ and races too freely...he is still dining out on running the idling BB,jockey minus the whip,to a few lengths. Can't have his jockey either.
Is this aimed at me because the quote you've drawn on is in response to a conversation i was having with Trainer. If it is you can direct your barbs to others because i've not said anything against him at any point.
He was impressive at Kempton Dex but was tying up close home and Cheltenham takes much more getting. Happy with my Last Instalment voucher for the RSA
Exactly. Are you suggesting the Jewson would be the better target for him or am I putting words into your mouth?
Quel...I would wait for the G1 3m novice chase at Liverpool's sharp Mildmay Course which would be right up his street. Looks a good voucher Oddy...hopefully theres a bit of ease in the ground.
