You can't really compare that with Gerrard going over there to be honest. Xavi was a superb midfielder, a generational talent who oozed class and won everything the game had to offer. Gerrard fell over.

<laugh> Just a bit bitter like. Gerrard was a fantastic midfielder, he showed up in huge games and he won trophies that some of our legends can only dream of ever achieving.

I think he has a point though ... Gerrard, Lampard and Beckham were very good footballers and did very well in their careers... but on the world stage limitations were exposed ... certainly when compared to the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Zidane, Toti etc ... the last English midfielder that could truly compete with their ilk for total, natural, ability would, IMHO, have been Paul Gascoigne ... not really surprising that England's 'Golden Generation' won **** all, given who they were up against ...

... just my opinion, of course ...

I said this the other day. The Saudi league will be big, money is no object for these lot and they know Sportswashing works.

I'm just not seeing how it's going to come to anything. I'm sure the older ones here remember when the likes of Best and Marsh fooked off to the states, much like Beckham is in Miami in more modern times, all those decades and it's never come to anything that affects English (British football).

The Saudi's can buy as many aging players as they like, I just don't see how any longer term places are going to get football fans of the Prem onside. We like the rivalry, we like going to places such as Man Utd, Spurs , Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, ok, ok, well not the Gunners as much.

Yeah they can buy up all the clubs, which they won't, because they'll have competition from the Americans, but it still ain't going to move the footie to another land. I'm clearly missing something in this project of theirs.

Oh and in case you're wondering Sucky, try the FA Cup final against Arsenal.

It was in 2001 when you apparently started supporting them <whistle>
