I have to say that I feel a little disappointed this morning. I think the players City have brought in are excellent, but the squad now seems a bit vulnerable to injuries, especially out wide with Bennett out. If Ayala and Becchio go out on recallable loans this will be less of a problem. On the other hand, every part of the team has been strengthened really well with Olsson in defence, Fer and Redmond in midfield, and of course three great strikers, at least one of whom can play as an ACM as well. The advantage is that these have already bedded in quite well, even Elmander who has already played in 3 games in the ten days since he arrived. I just hope that injuries don't plague us this year.

The way things are going I actually have no issue covering a potential injury crisis with the u21s

They beat top of the table spurs 2-1 yesterday. That youth team is now blending through into the development squad and I really rate them. We have that gafiti (sorry, can't remember how to spell) who went away with us on Pre season and didn't do horrendously bad at cb and as far as attacking players go, the Murphy's, dunga, loza and Morris. Lots to draw on if we needed to cover a certain area.

See above ^, Jacob Murphy will be excellent cover, was great against spurs.

Seeing as the window has "slammed shut", do people want this thread un-stickying now, or would you rather leave it up until the loan window shuts?

I like it when reading a thread on here makes me feel better about things. Although I have realised this before, I hadn't taken into account cover for injuries from the reserve squad. Excellent point and much appreciated! As for Carrabuh (or Carrubah as some one once called him), I know whose thinking is more likely to be "one dimensional", "rigid" and "formulaic". A broken record comes to mind.

This 'loan window', is it emergencies only for PL clubs? Or could we still sign, say, Troisi for 4 - 6 months while Benno does rehab etc?

Edit - I think I've answered my own question, or at least the Daily Fail has had a good go <yikes>

I think we can only loan players out, the only situation where I think we'd be allowed to make an emergency signing would be a 'keeper crisis.

i think you're probably over thinking things a tad rick. we know hughton tried to add a bit of cover by loaning vaz te - unfortunately that deal fell through, i assume because west ham wanted a permanent deal and we only wanted a loan. as mentioned, we do have some very promising players in the u21s who could potentially step into the breach but we also have whittaker who can play right wing, olsson who can play left wing, whilst pilks, redmond and snoddy can all play on either wing. i'd be wary of throwing more than one youngster in at any time and i wouldn't particularly like to start with any of them but i think there's a nice balance to the squad even without bennett fit. injuries can affect any team badly, that's just something you have to hope doesn't affect us too badly. i'd have liked to see a new centre half but only if he was as good as bassong. as you say, everyone is beginning to bed in now and we still have olsson and hooper to come in!

With this 25 man squad where 21 and under don't count towards the total, do they have to be named in the squad anyway, or can we just use one of the under-age players?

That's great, we have a lot of talent in that under 18 squad that could be handy in an emergency!

honestly dave, none of them are ready for the premier league. i think a number of them are ready for league one though, so a couple of clever loans could be a good idea. by the end of this season we may see one or two of them feature on the bench but i'd be very wary of popping any of them in right now
