Btw, Alderweireld has a contract till 2014 at Ajax which means a discount on the transfer fee. 8.8 million on transfermarkt means nothing.

Hopefully, maybe even better. For the moment I think Hooper, Toivonen and Fer are the people to hope to get. If those fall through we can always look elsewhere, but I'd expect the Hooper deal to go through (Just my personal opinion) and then Toivonen is mulling his options, so we just have to wait on that one, and not a huge amount has been said about Fer other than we are interested along with other Prem teams. If we can stretch our budget for Alderweireld that'd be incredible, but I may be being greedy. We'll keep hold of Ruddy, and maybe get a bit more depth in the strikers, that'll do me...
Oh yeah, and Olsson.

In the last half if the season he improved a bit up to a level that I think he can survive in the EPL but not he will not bring the same quality to the pitch as Vertonghen, not by a long shot.

i spoke to an ajax fan on twitter last night who thinks he's a better prospect than vertonghen - he thinks arsenal (his 2nd team by the sounds of it) should be in for him. i have never seen alderweierld in the flesh (don't think he played against us last summer, going from memory) so only have a few games on tv to go on but he strikes me as a more physical defender than vertonghen and more alert defensively. decent ball playing centre back, like the spurs man too and a danger at set pieces. i would rate them very similarly but i appreciate you probably know a lot more about his strengths and weaknesses than i do! i wonder if £4.5m might be enough to get him if paid all up front.
sounds like we'll see some movement on the hooper situation this week. not sure if true or not but the daily record have us down as having made a bid of £4m (turned down) along with qpr. i think it's just a matter of time now before we agree a fee with celtic and hooper travels for talks. i do think we'll try and sign another forward as well, but maybe a younger one to work on for the future. any suggestions for who that could be? maybe a lower league forward with potential?
I think we will bring in 1 striker on a permanent deal (Hooper) and then a young loanee again, Nick Powell i heard the other day, he would be an interesting one!

i think he might be a bit pricey! i know i banged on about it last summer but that was because i knew the club behind the scenes didn't want him. however, he's a player that i personally like and would have loved to see here. not my decision though!nick powell is an exciting talent but he's not a striker really. having said that he would be the sort of player i'd expect us to bring in on loan. i'd rather have a proper signing than a loan but i do think suffolkcanary could be right on that suggestion

unlikely, but could you imagine if we signed Fer and alderweirald? i keep pinching myself that we are being linked with these calibre of players
