I wouldn't say it was an exciting signing, just good value which is a rarity for British players.

I think the emphasis should be directed in other areas, we have an awful lot of these types of players. Snodgrass, Tettey, Bennett, Pilkington, Howson and Butterfield all straight line players.

We were just so lacking in passes across the midfield and switching back and forth and that problem won't be remedied by this, in fact it will be made worse.

At this point of pent up signing hysteria, I'm excited, a great young player and the sort of player we should be signing. I think everyone thought we needed some competition for Pilks and hopefully tomorrow we shall have it.

I do partly agree though wwith your point, we need someone who will control a game and give us more possession and much as the names that are being bandied around are a step up in quality I agree that they don't really address this need. I see spurs are in theory looking to offload Huddleston, I'd like a player like him, but is he ever fit? Could we afford his wages? Or could we get spurs to continue to pay some like Bass?

i'd rather not say to be honest. you can dm me if you're truly desperate to know! i have two jobs though - one is connected to the club though i don't work for the club anymore. and i'm certainly not ed balls! <laugh>
 
as young english talent goes, redmond is one of the most exciting, no question. i hope nobody is expecting the finished article though - he will need to be carefully looked after but he had a terrific season under hughton at birmingham and as that's all we have to go on right now, so i'm happy to trust our manager to continue down that road. the player is obviously keen to reunite with him. he had a poor season by most accounts last year under clark (this may be down to 'second season syndrome' that young players sometimes suffer from) but having seen a bit of the under 21s debacle, he was pretty much the only shining light. for a little over £3m we're signing a player with as much potential as any of the top youngsters on these shores. if that doesn't excite then you must be pretty dead inside...

I just have an appreciation of different things Pyjamas. If we had players not like this then I probably would be excited, I don't doubt he'll improve on what we have, but thats exactly my point.

I'll be excited when we improve on the things we don't have.

sounds like you're waiting for toivonen - let's hope that one comes off - we may find out more today <ok>

back to redmond, i'd argue we don't really have anyone with electric pace who has tricks up his sleeve, so he certainly brings something slightly different even if it's not what you are looking for. he'll allow us to play much swifter on the counter attack for starters. snodgrass has the tricks but plays off the back foot while pilks is a bit quicker though not as fast as redmond, but perhaps isn't quite as skilful. there's a nice variation amongst our wide men if you include bennett's energy and defensive nous too. when i said he's exciting i meant he's exciting to watch - he'll get bums off seats like huckerby did or eadie before him. i'm a big fan of players who take their man on - gascoigne was my footballing idol. any player who makes me feel like that is fine by me! pass pass pass is fine but there's nothing better than watching a winger skin a full back with a trick and burst of pace <ok>
 
I agree Supers, it's having the full mix that excites. Tip tap is great but can be over indulged and playing it long has it's merits to a point but if you can mix these together, with pace on the counter ie Bayern, Man U, thats what I and would say most like to see.

Is Butterfield a "straight line" player? I must admit,I've seen very little of him (as perhaps we all have!) but he seems more pass and move?

I kno he's been linked with a move, but I can still see Butterfield having an impact- it's been said before, but worth repeating, a full pre-season and it might be lie a new signing. From the little I saw of him he seemed like just the player we were missing - can play with both feet and retain possession high up the pitch

i think we are all desperate to see butterfield come through but coming in injured as he was, and appearing to be a bad fit within the club (i understand he's not well liked) means i think he'll be gone if the right offer is made and we'll have to put it down as one that could have been great but didn't work out. hope i'm wrong but i don't think i will be on this <ok>
