yeah, thought it was likely to be higher than our offer. but the strange thing is him stating that the price PSV wanted was too high. he definitely wants out it would seem.

It's also strange that they have apparently accepted an offer 2.5mil(ish) less than that.
Could it be a case of knowing there is no point in having an unhappy player?
Would also make sense of it coming 'out' so that they can drive the price up if other clubs reall are interested.

he's only got one year left on his deal. does transfermarkt take account of this?

Not sure, I think they just give the market value so that would assume yes.
Apparently Hooper is worth £4.4M, don't think that has changed since Januray.

in the same article on the pink un about toivanon, or however you spell it, they mention hull have opened talks to sign curtis davies. It looks likely we can cross him off the list, although i don't think we are interested now.

this is guess work, but i wonder whether the form of ryan bennett changed hughton's mind about davies? i still personally think we need another centre half but we do have martin and possibly ayala (not sure what's going on with him) who can be fourth centre back. like i say, pure guess work but it would make sense and save the club about £3-4m on a player who would strengthen the squad, certainly, but not necessarily strengthen the first team

i had thought the same thing - the form of ryan, the improvement of Turner and his partnership with Seb, and Rusty's dependability and ability to play CB, means that a new CB has dropped down the list of priorities. that may well change come January.

Hull have reportedly big £4m+ for Hooper, that could speed up our interest or let us know if we are still interested. I would like to see us sign him for that sort of money.

I personally think a centre back is not top priority Russ is better than we'd get for around £3m anyway and Ryan Bennett looked class at the end of the season. Just filling a squad place

In truth we have Bassong, Turner and Bennett who will battle for the two starting berths, we have both Rusty and Whittaker who can cover and currently both Ayala and Barny are on the books although I suspect we will see both depart after July 1st. I'm thinking we need more cover in the full-back positions now that Tierney and Francomb have gone or are going and that would be a bigger priority now defence wise than another CB.

I watched a decent stream of the Croatia :emoticon-0115-inlov v Scotland game, and it was apparent the Russ Martin - despite not really playing CB for us this season, was still more than comfortable in that position. He was one of the stand out performers on the night, despite playing out of his normal position <ok> Not much more I can add.
