I would also like to see Holt stay, as he is such an influence on the team as a whole. Given that RvW's fee came out of last season's budget, money is not so tight that we have to lose Holt.
At 27, if he was anything more than a championship player, I'd suspect he'd have been picked up by now.
With a lot of the rumours we are hearing am I the only one who is worried we arent going to spend as much this summer as we think we should be doing?

I think all that the RVW signing shows is that we can now pay a higher price for players.
I would be surprised if we spent that much again on a single player.
I think we will spend around £20M this summer with maybe 4 or 5 players coming in, so around £4-5M per player. Even if we go for Hooper again dont think he will command what we supposedly offered during Jan, maybe get him for around £6M? Think is priced at around £4.5M on transfermarkt.com

I wrote a thread about this scenario some months ago,and was lambasted by most posters.
You are correct that the bar has now been raised,and EVERYONE in the Prem League
is in the same position,having retained or won their place for next season.
The additional funding,which most people assumed would open up a whole
new world, with access to better players,just aint going to alter the situation.
As I reiterated previously,ALL Prem clubs have more money,so they

RVW has raised the expectation bar for sure. I think we need to be patient, the window doesn't open until July the 1st so there is plenty of action to come. remember how underwelmed a lot of people were with Mark Bunn's signing last year, that turned out to be pretty astute.
I don't believe Nursey's remark about squad players. City have good squad players now and have let others go: (Barnett, Ayala, Fox, Jackson, Tierney). Players coming in now should be competing for the starting line-up, not just providing back-up. I think the budget is more than £20m, but some may be saved for January so £20m is a reasonable figure to use. It's possible one place could be filled through a loan like Danny Rose from Spurs at LB. That would leave about £5m each for the remaining four players, who would hardly be squad players at that price. This summer is about building a full PL 25 man squad that can compete over the next 2-3 years. That could be done with another striker like Hooper, an ACM like Van Ginkel or Maher (both under 21), another LW option (even if Surman stays), and a fourth CB. Should CH decide that Vaughan or Ayala could fill the fourth slot in their positions, Then RvW type top priced players could be brought in for the other positions without selling any current starting players. CH would seem to have a lot of options, IMO.
That was my thinking, for some reason (and I have no idea where I have picked this up from) I think our seasons transfer budget will be about £35M. So roughly 20 for the summer and 15 for Jan
I don't understand why people don't pay more attention to the hints and snippets that come out of the club, as opposed to jumping to conclusions about how big the transfer budget is and at what pace we can expect team strengthening to proceed. We simply don't know how much money is available for transfer fees: the only hard indication we have is that CH will have a budget bigger than any previous Norwich manager. But that would likely be true even if there is no more than, say £11M for transfers. As has been pointed out, there has to be money to pay the wages, and to pay existing players more to keep them happy playing for us and not looking elsewhere. Yarco is also right when he says that all our competitors are benefitting for the higher TV revenue, so the same players are simply going to cost more to bring in.
Reading between the lines of what comes out of the club, as opposed to sundry speculation, CH's priority is to strengthen where we are currently most weak -- goal scoring. That apart, with almost a dozen players having been released or leaving, we can expect some judicious squad strengthening of a kind that will continue the on-going process of steady if unspectacular improvement/evolution. IMO we will only see another so-called "marquee" signing if an RvW-like "opportunity" is spotted and can be grasped.

robbiebb, some fair points. I hold out hope that there might be some more rvw-esque players available in the european leagues, particularly Spain, Portugal and Holland, where some clubs appear to be struggling financially.

The question then though is how attractive we would be compared to other clubs who would also be interested. In the case of RvW, we had the cash to put on the line when Sporting needed it; that almost certainly swung it for us. Re. the funds available, the media facilities upgrade at CR, improvements to pitches and other facilities at Colney, and further development of the academy, all have to be paid for as well. I just see a continuing theme of financial prudence, with plenty kept in reserve for January and any unforeseen developments (such as a key player being injured or enticed away).

Of course -- and what would be the fun of a forum which just consisted of people being realistic and no fantasizing? 
if fans are expecting a 'wave' of RvW-type signings then they will be bitterly disappointed. he was an astute signing. we may see less-known foreign signings but realistically the club still has to cut it's cloth accordingly and although we can expect a better calibre of player coming in, they won't all be dutch internationals (or that sort of level, anyway!). equally, i'd have thought we have also gone past the 'albert adomah' stage. he wasn't even getting into the bristol city side relegated from the championship. would have been a good signing for us had we just been promoted but is no better than what we already have. gary hooper is certainly still in the clubs sights and i can't see them suddenly giving up on that one, especially as the price tag will now be more realistic. curtis davies would be a fairly obvious signing. between them you're looking at around £8m in total i'd have thought. i think we'll spend about £15m this summer (not including RvW who came from last season's budget) so we should have around £7m or so to spend on a playmaker and a winger and a left back. one or two bosman's may come in in those areas. as for holt, i'd doubt very much that he'll be off. it'll be vaughan who goes to make way for hooper (or a n other) and jackson has already left.

just checked on Diego Capel. he has a 30million euro release clause with Sporting, so i imagine they will hold out for bids to help raise the ante. can't see a straight deal being done by any team, until August at least.
Having looked through Twitter a bit there have been rumours that Capel is being looked at by a number of clubs since the beginning of March.
So far Liverpool have been looking at cut price bid of 4m, Swansea looking at 8m and we feature ever so slightly, probably because of RVW.
So the only thing that might happen is seeing Capel leaving Sporting!
