I've just had a look at Jelle Vossen's goals on YouTube and they're worth watching. I know everybody looks good on YouTube compilations but the quality of finishing is very high: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQAYkqe65KY
I could perhaps see him as a loan to reduce the risk, but we still need to sign another striker on a permanent deal this summer. RvW, Hooper, Holt, Guidetti would be very potent.
Elliott Bennett and his wife of a few weeks are both from Shropshire, just "up the road" from Birmingham. Doesn't need a code-breaking specialist to decipher the workings of the journalistic mind!
But as my wife keeps telling me, I'm usually wrong. Lambert is probably getting out Randy Lerner's cheque book (sorry, check book) as we speak!
That comes with the territory when you marry, Robbie! Does anybody know if City have a one-year option on Benno's contract? Changing the subject slightly, this is the latest view on Naughton and Livermore possibly coming to City: http://threeandin.com/?p=22504
Sunday Mirror running a story about Holty joining Palace as cover for Glen Murry? A £2m fee being quoted? Apparently.
Here's the link to the Holt 'story' http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/crystal-palace-transfer-news-norwichs-1982113?
Here's an 18ct gold nugget of non-information from the Star (quoted in the BBC Gossip column this morning): "Tottenham are preparing a £20m deal for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, 22, and Spurs could offer 29-year-old forward Emmanuel Adebayor as part of any move." Has the writer thought to ask himself what the chances are of Paul Lambert ever, under any circumstances, even contemplating signing Emmanuel Adebayor? Apparently not. Doh! Rumours and gossip surely need to have at least a miniscule degree of credibility?
If there is a grain of credibility in that article, it will represent a terrific piece of business by Villa. Benteke cost them around £7m from Genk. BUT, the money aside, they might well - and probably would have been relegated but for his 19 goals. I'm sure we're all hoping that RvW can be the next Benteke or Michu. But for the goals, rather than the potential transfer value if he proves successful.
another story in one rag saying we are prepared to sell Pilks if we get offered £5m. ??????? did McNally tell them this? no, made up as usual.
Congratulations DH - it's a thankless task keeping up with all the rumours. My view, as expressed elsewhere, is: I don’t see either Bennett or Holt leaving. CH’s ‘evolution rather than revolution’ would imply retaining the players who played a significant part last year and adding around 5 places to the squad to replace those who didn’t (Tierney, Barnett, Camp, Fox) as well as Jackson. That’s 5 spaces available without weakening the squad and 5 places available to strengthen it. Redmond could provide a 6th, and as he is under 21, he wouldn’t count in the 25 man squad. If that isn’t enough, then CH might look at other players. Not before, IMO.
It's not so bad when I keep on top of it, but I've neglected it for a while which was a mistake! Yeah, I think generally that'll be the policy, with any extra manoeuvring a bonus. Fox is the only of those who I think may have a future, and when you factor in RvW signing, we've got 3 spots left in the squad, presumably for a LB, CAM and striker? It's surprisingly really how tight the 25 man squad is!
