Interestingly, Josh Rees who was earlier rumoured to be a target for us, has been released by Arsenal. I'm not entirely sure why we were rumoured to be interested, but at least he won't cost anything.

    Titus Bramble anyone? <laugh>

Carlton Cole has been released, so he'd be another rumour that wouldn't cost anything, and Di Santo from Wigan is surprising. David Bentley?

Chris baird (might be a bit old but versitile)
Marc Antoine fortune (probably ok in the striker dept)

alex pearce is an interesting one. i think a lot of clubs will look at him but he does severely lack pace. could be a good option to compete with bassong, turner and bennett if davies or a n other proves too expensive. wouldn't go near danny simpson. ronny stam looked useful against us this season but do we need another right back?

true supers, but whittaker can play LB and rusty CB, so if we had Stam you'd have whittaker to cover at LB. probably best get an orthodox LB though.
on second thoughts, danny simpson's a no, i agree

I've always rated Di Santo as a good player, surprised Wigan have let him go myself as I thought he would probably lead the line for Wigan next season.

Sam Kelly and Phil Roberts released from Everton and Arsenal, both ex youth players , although Kelly is rumoured to be rejoining us as he has played for the Dev squad last season.

I see Arshavin has been released by the gunners and Di Santo and Figuroa have been released by Wigan.

What ever happened to Arshavin? Looked decent when Ive seen him play.

These would be available on a free and I have a soft spot for all of them to be honest. What do you guys think?

Luke Wilkinson and Jonjo Shelvey have both been reported today.

    I know nothing of Wilkinson.

Shelvey I doubt would be a popular choice because of how he looks and speaks more than anything, but if we could get him (again, I doubt this), then I think he would be a giant for us. Massive potential wherever he goes.

Oh he's already been discussed. Well, I disagree with some of you, I would be perfecty comfortable paying ~£6m for Shelvey.

I wouldn't mind Shelvey, but I'd only pay 2.5 million as a maximum. He could develop as he's still very young.

You can get very good players for 6 million however and we are desperate for some touch and technique players (which I don't think Shelvey is)in that midfield to stop that ball going wide so damn early.

Im rather disturbed with this rumour of Kebe keep popping up. £2.5mil for a Championship standard 29 year old winger, questions will be asked if we to that sort of deal!

I do think Kebe is the type of player Hughton will be after (tall and rangy), but even I don't have that low an opinion of Hughton to think he'd be stupid enough to sign him.

Apparently Celtic may be trying to hijack Johnny Russell's move from Dundee to Derby. Presumably that'd only happen if Celtic found themselves missing the services of a certain striker?

A year-long loan for Shelvey would be a better way forward, IMO, leaving money to spend on other players whilst see in how Shelvey gets on here. He can play CM or AM, or even on the LW so could add cover for injuries.

    Take or leave this but...

Shelvey has a lot of good/bad qualities.

On one hand he's able to spray the ball accurately, can hit shots, can dribble through a crowd...

But other times he can barely control a football. He has no balance. Lacks composure, still.

Through all this he does have the knack of always getting chances. I think he could be a very good, or at least very effective, player for a team which is willing to feed things through him.

I'm totally UNDERWHELMED by today's transfer rumours.

Shelvey - Only if we sign him for sensible money
    Kebey - No thanks
    Nzonzi - Ditto

    I'd have nzonzi.

Would much rather have robson-kanu than kebe.
