see, that's fine rbf - and i wouldn't want someone like suarez either. but my point is that our fans shouldn't get so upset just because a player isn't sure whether to come here or not. he has been labeled all kinds of vile things based on him not immediately jumping at the chance or saying the wrong things. i read yesterday people moaning about hooper because he was more interested in playing in the premier league than playing for norwich! i mean, that's just being ridiculous but the same thing applies to toivonen. it's fine if you aren't sure about a player - he's not sure about our club - but some of the stuff i've read about him being a mercenary or hating us is downright daft. i almost want him to come here now just to see how people back track, or is it going to be another easy target for the 'boo boys'...?

I think the difference between Ola and Toby is Toby isn't forcing his club into an unreasonable position. He has heard our offer, come and had a look and kindly declined. He has stated that he is likely to sign a new contract with Ajax, unless a top Prem side come in for him. Toivonen, however, is refusing to sign a new contract, clearly disrupting the PSV team and had already dismissed our offer several weeks ago. Now that no one else has come in he suddenly is reconsidering us.

It's differing attitudes in similar situations. I would rather take Quags over Toivonen now.

this may be true but alderweireld holds all the aces, same as toivonen. there's a lot of likenesses between the two potential deals except toby's father is more eloquent with his words!

Good move for Surman and the club - glad he's going to a progressive club like Bournemouth too.

Shame the Sky Sports website has a photo of Bradders to accompany the article lol <doh>

Obviously Toby holds all the cards, but he's not going to allow himself to be dropped into the reserves rather than sign a new contract. It's that attitude towards the PSV and their fans that annoys me about Toivonen. I really don't expect all these big international players to shun the likes of Liverpool and Spurs to join us, it's just the way Ola has gone about this whole situation that really irks me.

Toby's Dad seems like a great guy though!

Good luck to Surman. He deserves some game time after his lengthy injury.

It's only a season long loan, so it will be good for Surman to play some games.

According to Sky, Surman to Bournemouth is only a loan deal. Given that he is recovering from an operation, and needs to play regularly to stop his career stalling, this strikes me as a good move all round. In addition to posting a picture of Bradley J, not Surman, the Sky piece also says that Hughton can let him go having already strengthened his wide left options by signing .......... Leroy Fer. I think I can safely say "Doh!". <ok>

Good luck to Surs on his loan. He's a nifty little player, so unlucky with the injury. If he has a good season next year with Bournemouth you'd hope Hughton would give him another crack in the team.

One of my favourite things about Surman (Other than he is a great footballer) is that he is always smiling when he is playing. It's nice to see a guy that is just enjoying himself so much!

I would have kept Surman myself, if he has a recall option (which is probably unlikely) than its a good move. Because he does need regular games to get back to his best, which he won't get here.

I'm also sorry to lose the option that Surman provides, but he did miss all but 7 games last season and will need game time to get back in shape. With Redmond coming in and playing so well, his chances of that here seem limited. It does open up other possibilities for players coming in, though.

Didn't DM say recently that we'd be getting one or 2 more signings after hooper?

I guess Surs going, along with Barnett opens up a few more positions for DM and CH to fill with even more talent!

Agreed. Toby may be talking crap, but he has come out to say he'll sign a new deal if he doesnt move so as to not screw over Ajax. I wouldnt trust someone who seems happy to treat their previous club like that at norwich, especially as we are seen as an entry point to the prem.

We arent going to be many big european players final destination in the prem, but in exchange for our bringing them into the prem there has to be some promise of commitment to us for at least a fee years to make it worthwhile for us. Fer and Rvw seem to get this, im not sure ola would. Small clubs have been treated badly by foreign players trying to engineer a big club more before, the hollow words of tevez at west ham come to mind.

    Surman off on loan!!

I doubt he'll ever play for us again.

Thanks Hughton, in terms of style absolutely perfect player to link up with good movement up front from Wolfswinkle and Hooper. Surman narrow and playing short through balls and one twos.

Surman haven't played in the league in ages, I would be unsure and uneasy seeing him in the line up. Makes perfect sense to loan him out so that he can get some first team action.

With Howson, Wes, Fer, Snodgrass, Bennett, Redmond, Pilks, Johnson, Tettey, he wouldn't get a look in.

But I doubt we'll see him play for us again, but it doesn't concern me, I believe we have enough quality in the midfield and will bring in players better than Surman.

I do wish him all the best though and he deserves to play regularly.

Surman could play diagonally inward balls from tight narrow positions, I don't know if Fer can do that, I doubt Redmond can and I know the others can barely muster a pass anywhere under pressure.

They're all capable of a good pass as they are all good players. Surman been missing for too long, so who knows if he still got that sharpness. So that's why him going out on loan is good for the club and player.
