Turner and Bassong were widely rumoured to be injured at the end of the season though? I think Barnett may well be on the way. If Bassong is up for sale that might explain why we bid for Alderweireld.
well we aren't selling bassong or turner so get that out of your heads right now! it's been widely reported that turner is injured and bassong too. barnett is assume will be leaving if an offer comes in
The injuries would be the most likely reason, and Barnett was wanted by Cardiff. Also explains why Adel Gafaiti (CB) was added from the development squad. Did Ayala go?
USA TOUR SQUAD: Daniel Ayala, Luciano Becchio, Elliott Bennett, Ryan Bennett, Mark Bunn (GK), Jacob Butterfield, Leroy Fer, David Fox, Adel Gafaiti, Javier Garrido, Wes Hoolahan, Jonny Howson, Bradley Johnson, Russell Martin, Josh Murphy, Carlo Nash (GK), Martin Olsson, Anthony Pilkington, Nathan Redmond, John Ruddy (GK), Robert Snodgrass, Andrew Surman, Alexander Tettey, Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Steven Whittaker.
I think another quality CB would be a fantastic and necessary addition if we are to play a more composed passing game. Often CBs are good defensively but are unable to bring the ball out confidently and effectively - ryan bennett will be able to do this as he develops and having some one to model himself on would hasten his development. Greater competition for the two berths would also be beneficial - it would also give the center midfield greater confidence to play attacking roles
Calderwood also confirmed that manager Chris Hughton will be flying out to join the squad on Wednesday after finalising some pre-season plans back in England. Taken from http://www.canaries.co.uk/news Someone signing ?
I have to admit I think the reason we have bid for Alderwereild is due to injury concerns. Its no surprise to find out Bassong and Turner are still recovering from injury and they are arguably our first choice CB's. I think McNally and co saw a top player available at a reasonable price and chanced their hand and it almost paid off. Hopefully Basson and Turner will be at 100% by the time the first EPL game comes around.

Whilst we're still wondering about Hooper and Quagliarella, here's a well thought out neutral analysis of City's current 'ambitions': http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11096/8827537/Healthy-ambition?
rick, that article almost brought a tear to my eye. nice to see us being viewed in such a positive light
"... you look at Norwich and rejoice that there are still some clubs with a proper, progressive plan. It really shouldn't feel so rare." This is the last sentence from the article. Bloomin' marvellous!

If reports that Man United turned down Mata + £10m for Rooney are in any way accurate, Moyes is bat-**** crazy. Suspect its rubbish though. Cheers for that article, very good read.
