Adam Johnson is apparently a Sunderland fan, maybe the pull of playing for his boyhood club was too much? Lets face it, after being at Man City then it is a case of one of two things: either he is not ambitious or he wants to just play football.
Born in Sunderland, grew up a Toon fan apparently. Lack of interest from us and family would have played a factor.
I'm sure you will have seen but I have said numerous times that he would have been great for us pre-Rodgers but I don't think he would suit us now
He would have been better (and younger) than Downing, but I know what you mean. Tell you who would have been good though. Victor Moses, great pace, skill and end product. Now he is going to be wasted on the Chelsea bench.
I agree he is a better option than Downing (my five year old is!) but Rodgers inherited him. If Rodgers isn't overly keen on that type of player then he isn't going to buy one. Plus, Downing does track back more than Downing does and the 433 that Brendan likes requires all players to work hard in retrieving possession
Chelsea just spent another £20mil on players to take their total spend to some £80mil net this summer alone. If they don't challenge for the title with that kind of money being spent can't see RDM being in a job much longer. City is a strange one. It seems they brought all the big stars that were available for the last 3 years and now they can't find anyone to improve so instead are just buying random British players who will play about 15 games all season for them. Maybe we could offload Adam, Downing, Spearing, Carroll to them for £50mil?
City have built there team. Now they are building there legacy by signing young British players. When Chelsea splashed the cash on a super team they failed to invest in the next generation and soon slipped away. City are run by wiser people.
I'm not sure, its hard to say. Rodwell started against Southampton. I think Mancini does get influenced by favouritism to, and he seems to like Rodwell. Rodwell's competition is Toure, Barry, De Jong (who may leave in the next few days) and Milner. Rodwell has age on his side with those. Sinclair's competition is Silva, Nasri and Milner. But Sinclair is the only proper winger there. They could pinch Bale if Spurs miss the champions league again though.
Yes they did, they just didn't do a very good job because they kept swapping managers. Mourinho was keen on buying quality young players but Abramovich preferred the Shevchenko's and Ballack's of this world 100% agree. They have both wasted their talents going there, much like Adam Johnson. Hopefully they will both get a chance to rebuild like Johnson has now got at Sunderland
Rodwell, a replacement for someone that played 10mins of competitive action for them last season. Sinclar, a replacement for someone who over 50% of his football came as a substitute. Like I said, wasted talent, and neither of which will be there in 2 season time.
