Honestly if Areola is better than Patterson it is not by much. At his best he concedes the shots he's expected to concede and very rarely wins them points and does lose them points on a regular enough basis to be noticeable. Not too sure how hes managed to hang around the prem for so long. At least Patto has the 'advantage' of being relatively young and untested at this level rather than already found out.

Gks don't need too many minutes in preseason, even if he played the last preseason game he will be fine for 1st game of the season

Agree GK position is a concern and def needs strengthening
Fair do’s. I was under the impression it could be risky with him not playing too much

Imo if we hadn’t gone up and there was a realistic chance of Moore and seelt starting our first championship game, I’d be slightly disappointed, so I don’t see a world it’s the case for our first prem game.

I’m really happy with what we’ve done so far at this stage of the window but I do think there’s a little pressure to move some things on in the next week. Gk and cb pre West Ham I think is very important. With less pressure on a rw, cm, second cb and striker that can come in before the end of the window.

I’m still confident we’ll be ready for West Ham, like RLB said I think sometimes you need that punch in the mouth like we got on Saturday. The sporting directors will be working even harder this week imo.

Nowt wrong with that mate. It would be brilliant to keep more of the promotion team together as they gave us something unbelievable. The PL is brutal though.
Yes its brutal, but i do believe some of them can and will step up.

Not every player in the Premier league is miles better than our squad from last year.

Again just my opinion and apologies for being optimistic, I dont need and the forum doesnt need any in depth reasons why my opinion is wrong

As said earlier - it’s a massive week ahead

We really need to hit the ground running

West Ham (H) on paper is in the top 5 easiest fixtures from 38. Must be one we target for 3 points

You'll be surprised with GK. Game time reaction and coordination need fine tuning. Plus, it's more the psychology for keepers and being switched on within a game day environment for the full 90 with a full stadium etc.

The last paragraph is something I forgot to consider. He did say it reminded him how far away we actually are and the work that needs to be done. Might have give the sporting directors that little bit more push to get stuff over the line. Not that they won’t have been but would defo be a motivating factor

We absolutely do have players that can step up mate for sure. Some just disagree about Areola not being as good as Moore. That’s all there is to it mate

He was still his calm self but I can’t remember feeling him be as frustrated as he was on Saturday. Not that I think it was with the recruitment at all just with how the players performed. They set some promising markers in Portugal and were way off that on Saturday. Obviously don’t want us to show up like that but I’m glad it happened when it did and I think there will be a big refocus now.

Out of all the keeper links (including meh ones) I do hope Ortega is a concrete one. I think that experience in goal and his ability will be good. The more experienced additions the better
Yep, I still feel we’re way short

Look at the midfield. Sadiki and Diarra are highly rated but they’re bairns. I really worry if we lose 3 or 4 in a row and need a bit of a lift with the tough games coming thick and fast. I’m desperate for Xhaka to sign
