I've seen Xhaka play since his debut at Basel at 17, then his years at Gladbach, then Arsenal, and finally Leverkusen. A lot of matches and also clips, and all the matches of the Swiss team. He played mostly in double 6 and in 8. It all depends on the coach, the system and the players around him. I preferred him as a No. 8, because then, more advanced, he could also score goals with his great shots or free kicks. At Leverkusen, while being a double 6, he played a little further back than the other No. 6, with all the construction of the game on his behalf. A sort of advanced libero. Given his game intelligence, we even had him play No. 10 and full-back (Arsenal), but that has its limits and destabilized him a lot. In short, the coach can play him as a 6 or 8, depending on his ideas, and even as a libero in front of the defense. One thing is sure : he's a tireless diesel engine, and no worries about his age: last season, he was again the player who ran the most in the Bundesliga!
