Sunderland strong temptation for defender – Director flies to find replacement
22nd July 2025
Last week, Corriere di Bologna reported Sunderland’s willingness to make a second bid for Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi.
They expressed doubts over the player’s intentions about joining the Black Cats but Regis Le Bris’ side are slowly making some progress in their move.
Il Resto del Carlino, relayed by 1000CuoriRossoblu, today reports that Sunderland is proving to be a strong temptation for Lucumi even though he hoped for a bigger club to come along.
The approach from the newly promoted Premier League side is starting to convince the Colombian and this can be a major turning point in the mini-saga.
Sunderland are expected to make a bigger offer for the 27-year-old soon, with Bologna looking to earn €25m. The newspaper claims the player’s agents are now pushing for a move to England.
Rossoblu sporting director Giovanni Sartori flew to Belgium at the weekend to watch Union St Gilloise’s Fedde Leysen, who is seen as a replacement for Lucumi.
This could be the biggest sign yet that Sunderland can land Lucumi, and their next offer will be key.

Never played above championship level in the UK and did well for one season in a league comparable with the SPL. Hmm.I think he’ll bang them in tbh. Got the lot
Never underestimate the pulling power we have.
We are so ****ing back.
And I said there was a slim chance. Happy to be 1-0 up hereI was only just saying late night I think Xhaka is a non starter, but that was only my opinion, but f**k me ill be glad to be wrong!!
“I have a hotline to import all the cuckoo clocks and Toblerone a man can consume. The real deal. Not the imitation ****.”Fellow countryman in charge goes a long way.

Was funny?I remember when Pady power was funny.
Would definitely have me on the survival bandwagon, I don't think Lammens is perfect and still makes mistakes - but by god hes got a lot of potential and some of the saves he makes are insane, I'd certainly be willing to trust him in net.Sounds very very promising about Xhaka but still a lot can happen between now and the deal being signed
Hopefully gets all done asap
Still hoping for lammens xhaka lucumi and diakite to all sign in the next 7-10 days, would be mental
