I’m not gonna sit and convince myself that lauriente wasn’t that good now he’s not coming. His stats were very solid in a much higher quality league than where we’ve bought from so far bar Adingra.

massive shame for me but I’ll leave it there

don’t think it’s a case of convincing ourselves for most of us. I was still trying to convince myself it was a good signing for the squad makeup.

We’ll get a link to somebody in the next 48 hours you’ll be even more excited about I’m sure

It's one of 2 things for me.

1) We've seen something in the medical that we don't like and tried to negotiate the price which has been rejected.

2) The news on Mundle is positive and we're expecting him back mid season, meaning we feel we can manage on that side until then.

Like most, I expect we target a winger for the right side now rather than the left.
or his agent has seen the Mundle injury news and has tried to squeeze more money out of us

It may be as simple as a failed medical and for confidentiality reasons we just won’t publicly confirm that. It’s the lad’s personal medical data. Not for us to tell the world he’s got a problem.

I’m sure I read yesterday this was Mundle’s first surgery and that they were doing it because he keeps tearing it, rather than a second surgery?

He has a procedure last time as it was a grade 3, 12 week issue. Now, depending on the type of exploration and intervention needed, will determine what they label it as.

Either way, this time its less time out than before.

I'm disappointed as I thought the lad was a good fit for us personally

Interesting every single article mentioned moved onto other targets

As a result, the Black Cats have informed Lauriente, his representatives and officials at Sassuolo that they will not be continuing with their previous transfer plans.

The breakdown of the deal is a blow given that Sunderland had focused in on Lauriente after holding preliminary talks with a number of attacking players in the last few weeks.

The Black Cats' options in the wide-attacking positions were reduced last week when Romaine Mundle suffered a hamstring injury that has resulted in an operation that means he will miss the start of the new season.

However, the Black Cats have a number of alternative attacking options they could now revisit, with Le Bris' side due to return to pre-season action when they face Sporting tomorrow night.

I don't get the whole argument about it being the agent. These things are a negotiation and if they're all in the room in Portugal with the player having said his goodbyes to Sassoulo, I don't see how his agent suddenly comes out with a demand that shuts the whole conversation down. The club wouldn't just pull out of the deal and no longer negotiate.

Unless player terms hadn't been discussed before they arrived in Portugal... or maybe he has another offer on the table.

Did someoen
But you don't know either of those for sure. We can't just get extra players in just to cover a 5-6 game patch in the season. There is plenty of other wingers out there, the club might go for another LM but they mighy also see we need strength in other positions
especially on a 5 year contract for a hefty fee, I think we could/should use a loan spot for afcon cover

Not fussed about lauriente. I now wonder if agents started demanding big fees on top the deal which made the team say **** it.

There's plenty out there who can do that job.

More keen on reinforcements on the defensive side of things now anyway.

They usually go over the contract after the medical

How does that work in reality though? They're in the room - they would negotiate. Either the club or the agent would have to be completely taking the piss for negotiations to just end.

I know agents are unscrupulous but given that the player wants the move and the club want him, I can't imagine they'd ask for double money and refuse to negotiate it down or anything like that.
