Hey I mean hes improved as a player since he last had to play there at 18/19 but i'd be surprised nonetheless. Any reason other than Regis last job that suggests to you he wants to play a back 5 again?

Yes, several conversations with a friend who ran several programs at the FOL, also you can infer from RLB himself throughout the season when asked about formations and tactics, he stuck with a winning formula for most of the season and didn't rotate until right at the end of the season, he is a creature of habit and can be quite superstitious. This new season is a clean slate.

Maybes he does be interesting to see how it's set up then

I mean if you going to move to a 3/5 at the back system who better than an experienced italian defensive coach as assistant

I can appreciate that point of view, and I do think we want to be able to use a back 5 throughout the season at times but I will maintain that in my view and a couple of the people I have spoken to at the club they still expect a similar 4-3-3 shape. However, it is certainly cheaper to not look to sign wingers - both them and strikers continue to be the most expensive positions in football.

Or he’s been brought in because he’s a good talented defensive midfielder which we need tbf

I think there’s going to be some upset fans when they realise their favourite players won’t be starting next season. The club are being ruthless and rightly so, too many of the lads who got us promoted aren’t ready for the PL yet and that’s just how it is. That’s why we finished 20+ points behind the top 2, and I’ll also add that those two are nowhere near ready for the PL either. We needed to improve dramatically and we’re going about it the right way. The thought of Le Fee, Neil and Rigg in a midfield 3 in the premier league next season is absolutely horrifying they will get slaughtered.

I think we will sign a wide forward type (Lauriente), who can go both sides, as you said we will want to be flexible and change formation if required, Roberts and Mundle might be asked to do WB or forward roles also, lots of options, nothing is ruled out.

If your going to copy any teams style to suit how we've played last year you'd say forest, fast counter attack surrending possession compact and defending solid

They played mostly a 343

In two minds now haha not sleep tonight, I assume whatever he picks it'll be evident in pre season as we will need plenty of repition to move totally away from our current 4231 442 system

From what I could tell we still want to be able to set up the same way against who we view as the "weaker" teams, Regis liked to use a 5 against the likes of PSG, Monaco etc. Definitely will want to be able to use both.

I still have the current side finishing bottom, there’s so much work to do. Patterson, O’Nien and Roberts all get a game from the off currently… Encouraging start to the window but it must continue. Some experience wouldn’t go amiss either…
