Matty Young will be 30 caps deep for England by then, not to mention our number 1.

Well whether he quite does that or not, a young player, goalie especially, needs to think he has a reasonable chance of getting into the side. That is far less likely if we have an expensive one on the books.

IMO, the position is not a priority, though I can see why they might have tried to get this bloke.

Sorry Southern but how can you be gutted over not signing a player most on here hadn't even heard of until a few days ago....for a position we've got a keeper on our books as capable as any in holding down a starting role.
We've probably saved ourselves a sh1t load of money on a bloke who looks as if we wasn't suited for a team KLD and Reg are buiding.
We'll move on and get imposters who actually want to be here...We've had years signing mercenaries who've ducked this club over good and proper.
Apologies rant over..

Because I really wanted him? That's why I'm gutted. Pretty simple.

The fact he's chosen the money suggests he was a bad egg. But I didn't want him to be. I'm gutted at his choice. I'm gutted that Saudi Arabia is ruining football.

I'm not so sure we'll just go out and find as good a replacement. From everything I've seen he was a rare talent at a rare junction of his career and contractual availability.

Marcin Bułka close to NEOM SC from Saudi Arabia!

The Pole is leaning towards signing a contract with the Saudi Pro League newcomer. The contract is worth 10 million euros per year.

Coach Christophe Galtier is in Nice pushing for the transfer. Medicals are due to take place in France.

Sunderland are still fighting, but NEOM is closer.[/QUOTE

it's over
But he's still just leaning, if he'd decided then why has it not been confirmed that he'd decided

Do you really think we won't be looking for another keeper because we failed to sign one, it's a position we will be strengthening, Patterson isn't good enough in my personal opinion. He's gutted because anybody who's looked into him can see how good he is, it's very normal

And I know it’s gutting but for me, again I’ll say it shows his ambition at his age that he chooses to go there over the prem
But he could move to the premier after 3 seasons a very rich man, not sure on how much of a challenge he'll have faced though.

That's the same as saying they're not selling him. Bloody hell they know how to sell players mind, but the lad is only twenty, been injured and scored thirteen goals in three seasons.
At Bulka's age, 25yo, he still has ten years of football ahead of him ...

... that's a long time to play in a pretend football team at a pretend club.

When he stops playing he'll be unemployable because the wages he can be offered will be so low as to be irrelevant.

That's true. Football doesn't wait around for players or managers . A year out is a long time, never mind three.

I know one or two lads who have earned some very, very good money working abroad. They really have earned it too, but they are open about not being able to work for what is on offer here, or anywhere really other than the Stans or similar.

He'll be the same. If he spends three years there, the highest level he can hope to come back to would be roughly where we are now, maybe less. He won't want to play for that cash. Others will have emerged and have been tested by then to attract the big payers.

He's all in on this.

There probably aren't 20 clubs in the world who are competing with Saudi money so as soon as they were mentioned as an option we knew it could come to this.

He will probably play there for 2-3 seasons, earn 4x what he could have earned in one of the top-4 leagues, then join a top team and we'll see how good he is. If he's as good as people say then I've no doubt he'll back himself to rock up at a Champions League club in 2029 and do the business.

I'm not sure about that mind. That league really is a low level operation, however much cash is thrown at it. It's not about football at all. They are just well paid pawns.

Footballers need to be playing. He'll be yesterday's guy if he stays there for three years.

We arent competing with Saudi money. Ultimately if a player chooses to go and play in a Sunday morning league for cash so be it, they probably aren't the right fit for what we want to do.
Pep ran into difficulties last night against a Saudi team...Goalkeeper Bono made big saves to deny Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan from close range, before showing sharp reflexes to tip Josko Gvardiol's header over the crossbar.

Not at €200k a week we won’t be, blood money wins the day.
