Disagree myself, he's really not as bad as you make out imo. Especially considering Ekwah probably wishes he had an ounce of Henderson's drive and football IQ

Ability on the ball isn't the be all end all if you have zero drive or work ethic, I think we forget what Henderson has done in his career and the level he's played at
He gets worse and worse every time I watch a game or some clips. Henderson is elite on the ball but off the ball i'd rather Ekwahs lack of effort over Hendersons lack of ability to move.

Go watch one of the 4-0 loss at Utrecht, 0-3 loss at home to NEC, or the 2-2 draw at Groningen. All three of them targeted Henderson and i'd say he was involved in at least 4 of the goals conceded in them games.

He may be great off the field but on it I can't get behind it, especially if it's just him and Neil as the deep midfielders for the coming season.

When he is good he is genuinely superb.

There’s no inbetween though, no solid but unspectacular.

Its ‘wow’ or ‘where?’ and we can’t carry that.

He’s got great personality about him as well just such a shame he can’t consistently do bits.
The thing with Ekwah is that he’s still young and he hadn’t played a huge amount of adult football. He’s developing and I wouldn’t dismiss him as I do think he’s got talent.

Which is why I'm a little sceptical about the value for us in this. If,as seems to be the case,Jordan is in with a more than decent shout to be in Tuchel's squad for next summer, isn't he going to have to play regularly during the season.....he's not going to get picked for England if he's with us for coaching, dressing room,mentoring..but not playing?

Yeah he'll be playing most weeks which is the main issue. He isn't coming here to be the backup to Neil and be a mentor in the dressing room, he's coming here to play and I don't think that's a good thing for us.

This perfectly demonstrates the limitation of highlight videos. highlight videos are going to show him on the ball. They're not going to show him shirking tackles or running around slowly, or not pressing.

Ekwah LOOKS like a brilliant player, has a brilliant build, and on the ball he is very very good. He also has a great name.

On paper he also looks like he was too good for the championship last year so we had to loan him to ligue 1. To an outsider he could be seen as too good for Sunderland. They don't know the context that we didn't want him.

All of that combined can easily make people think he's a world beater purely from highlight videos and wikipedia

Okay I wasn't going to get in with the Ekwah slander but I just saw a Man Utd fan suggest they could sell Bruno and replace him with Ekwah to focus the money on other areas of the pitch. Nearly spit out my drink
<laugh> If that lad is part of their recruitment team, at least one relegation spot will be filled!

Yeah I mean even saint Etienne fans have been saying (in regards to this recent explosion of hype)
- "you must only be watching one game in every 15"
- "if only he had some consistency"
- "beautiful player when he doesn't have to run"
Etc...

Henderson can't be a regular at PL anymore, remember watching his last season at Liverpool and he was so poor out of possession - and that was 2 years ago

I can get behind it if he is a role player only, but I'd be extremely worried if he was starting week in week out

The Dutch league is ridiculously slow, especially compared to the PL and he got caught out many times there due to not being able to cover the ground anymore

Not sure he would be playing week in week out mind. I think he’s planning on retiring here so I think he will naturally play more of a starting role but not necessarily every week

To me then it's just a complete waste of funds. Plus, you are then relying on Neil making the step up to play the games Henderson can't play. Putting a lot of pressure on Neil there considering he had some very poor games in the Championship.

In which case, his England World Cup ambitions will be over.

Yeh I think, from Jordan Henderson's perspective, he'd be thinking if he joins us he gets guaranteed premier league football for one final season, rather than seeing it as a chance to "give back" to Sunderland.
