But it's been commented on by Dodds and others that Neil has great tactic knowledge and understanding and he is the main person implementing that on the pitch for the manager. So he 100% is leading. Just cause he's not doing a Kevin Ball style captains job doesn't mean he's not a leader. If we have O'Nien being the vocal motivator and Neil making sure everyone is sticking to the planned tactics then surely that is the best of both worlds?

Kind of what I’m getting at though, you never see him giving out orders or talking much on the pitch. I don’t mean I want my captain smashing people and mouthing off at the ref every decision but I don’t really see the organisational side when I watch. But the club clearly know better than me

Must be mad how quick moves materialise, probably hasn't got to say bye properly to the lads, went to negotiate, agreed, in training the day after the medical in a new country and travelling with the team at the end of the week

Seems the Bellinghams, more so Jobe just do it all in public. Made no secret he was leaving Birmingham when he rocked up at ours and it was made very public he was away to Germany to look for a new club when leaving us. Reported release clause quashed to make sure the deal was done, personal terms reportedly agreed before a fee was agreed. They have became footballing royalty it seems.

Ngl, didn't know much about miller but this seems like the model working at it's best if we get him

If we were to sign Jordan Henderson there’s a possible conflict with Dan Neil.

People say he’s good at organising and shouting at players to get them doing the right thing and generally controlling the players.

Where would that leave Captain Neil.

Would they make Henderson captain because of his vast experience and on field management. Neil wouldn’t like that.

If Henderson is made captain would he play every game…I think not so would we have 2 captains?

If Neil stays as captain would Henderson do whatever Neil tells him to do on the field if he thinks it’s wrong?

If Henderson joins us I will support him but I think it would be better not to sign him. Maybe as player coach but Hendo probably wouldn’t want that.
Could throw onien into the mix with that, my feelings are that it would just be the same as last season. More than 1 captain on the pitch

The more the better. All the best teams have that. Keane, Ince, Bruce, Cantona, Pallister, Schmeichel were all potential captains. Lampard, Cech, Drogba, Terry, Cole, Carvalho in that Chelsea side. Arsenal's team was littered with them too. It shouldn't create any issue at all.

Wetherspoon in the Athletic also says that the sell on to Birmingham was 15% of PROFIT but the sell on to Sunderland from Dortmund is 15% total.

The accounting profit on Jobe we get to book for PSR purposes for this season is £20.7m to £22.8m. This significantly boosts not just our ACTUAL budget but also our ALLOWED budget under PSR for a few years.

As an aside, I never saw eye to eye with Chris on Sunderland stuff but I'm really glad to see he's landed on his feet as the Athletic's main finance writer. Dream gig for him.

never knock an individual but i think its a shame that finance reporters get as much ticker tape these days as your run of the mill sports journalist, game arguably in a sorry state of affairs with this PSR nonsense.

Seen a section with Kieron Maguire and he believes its only really Aston Villa in trouble this summer, not sure who we would fancy from there who would be realistic

Would love Leon Bailey
Bailey would a class replacement for Roberts. Slot straight in on that right hand side. Again, not much chance of signing that sort of player at the minute. Stay up and it’ll change…

Must admit, that bit of the video didn't sit well with me either....But, he is his dad and probably super excited what is happening with his son... Jobe has gone... we move on

i dont expect them to caveat everything they come out with 'but oh sunderland etc'

its fairly clear we were a stepping stone and that's fine, at least we've been promoted, would have been slightly sour had we stayed down as replacing him in that league would have been a challenge.

That said no matter what comments are caught on camera, regardless of context, there's no doubt that the past 2 years have propelled the lads career forward and thats as much down to him and his hard work and sunderland as a football club, he got the ultimate send off with arguably the best playoff run in donkeys years and it will have left a lasting impression.

I do think it's a shame they haven't stuck around, the family have clocked generational wealth already but a move to dortmund takes him higher up the pyramid, its a slower game in germany in general with the league not as stacked as the prem so he gets a good balance of bossing teams, testing himself against bayern and in europe and if we are looking at whats best for his development over the next 24 months, id argue its with them and should he develop as they expect, Dortmund will be just another stepping stone. Once you take the human element out of it and look at players like race horses, in my mind it becomes easier to understand.

I suppose one way to look at it aswell is considering chris rigg, 2 years behind bellingham, bellingham with 109 league games, rigg already on 63, might be a slight minutes disparity but there's a chance rigg could be on 90+ games with a year on Bellingham development wise. Where's best for him, he needs to play. I think he'll get good minutes mind but it's not gonna be jobe style with the obvious hand shake agreement. If Rigg takes a step forward this year, at the same pace he has the season just gone, frightening.

I think he was talking to one of the Dortmund officials who he had last met in Sunderland when they visited. So saying he is back home now. I am not seeing much wrong tbh.
Just his whole attitude feels like he couldn't wait to get away from us in my opinion like
