Would Vinicius Souza (sheff utd) have the physical profile we're looking for in midfield?
He is a presence for sure. Uses his body really well in 1v1 situations, perhaps as good as anyone. Good energy and gets the screen right.

My concern is that is not enough in a holding role, or defensive role. It now is the role that dictates possession and tempo. You need a super brain to play in there. You need a 360 degree view of the pitch in your head at all times. Those things are the basis, then you look for the more defensive side afterwards. For me anyway. I think too much emphasis is put on the so called CDM role these days, rather than the idea of a pivot player. Very few do both at the elite level. For me Souza would weaken us in possession compared to Neil, but would win more headers. I would sooner focus on looking after the ball.

If Jobe goes we'd be left with Neil, Enzo and Rigg as the main centre mids, we'd desperately need more size and strength.
100%. There’s a ton of talent in that trio, but you feel they could all be taken out by a stiff breeze…..

We are screaming out for some athleticism in midfield, especially now Jobe is going. I like the idea of changing the dynamics of how our midfield works, someone mentioned it on here recently and I can't remember who, instead of our 8 being the physicality (Jobe) while our better ball player played deep (Neil), it now looks to me like we'll be going with the ball player in the 8 (Enzo) and hopefully targeting someone with strength and power to sit deep.

I suppose that's a consequence of going from being one of the better teams in the league to, on paper, one of the weakest. We got away with Neil not being physically gifted because we played a lot of games in the opposition final 3rd, that changes now.

Doesn’t Doyle lack pace and physicality? They’re the two things that there seemed to be relative consensus on us needing in recruitment in going into the Prem.
He adds strength in depth, can’t see him being a starter from the get go for us

Yeah he does so i'm not particularly high on the signing. I understand it from a squad building perspective at that fee, replacing Browne. But we do need at least 1, maybe 2, powerhouses in midfield.

Yeah couple of us said it

I want two 8s who can maybe interchange and do a bit of everything with a big POWERHOUSE 6

How about two 6's? A destroyer/protector who can play a bit and Le Fee or Neil alongside them to get us playing? Then an 8 ahead of them to create and attack the box. Would that leave the striker too isolated?

When I described our first goal at Wembley, we seemed to have 2 8's involved after winning the ball on the halfway line.

I’d be happy with Doyle for £3m. When him and McAtee were on loan at Sheff Utd I was more impressed by him than McAtee at the SOL. Thought he looked a cut above everyone else on the pitch
I can remember being impressed with both. They got a goal each too <doh>
