I remember West Ham going down with these players,
David James, Michael Carrick, Trevor Sinclair, Joe Cole, Jermain Defoe, Frédéric Kanouté, and Paolo Di Canio.
Those players did alright.
I remember David James playing up front for Man City He was ****ing ****e <cheers>

I don’t think we played a double pivot against shields

we defended in a 442 as normal with diarra where jobe would be and ELF Neil

then played on the counter
We won't have worked on any tactical things in depth before the shields game so I wouldn't read anything into that game

It would have been fitness and ball work all week and we will start doing more tactical stuff this coming week - it's why they would have wanted a lot of players in by portugal

In terms of the Leicester lad, talented player but we can't keep signing players that are going to the AFCON (queue the mick Mccarthy meme). Every game is vital this year and I'm fine with the lads that'll be missing so far but we cannot sign another CM who will leave in Dec/Jan time

Yeah basically the entire serie a wants him, but hes been there and done that before so maybe the prospect of an ambitious project abroad could tempt him
Is this the Esposito from Spezia? There are 3 of them as far as I remember. The midfield lad hasnt had much Seria A experience has he?

El Khannouss is a number 10 who rarely scores or assists. I'll be honest and say I've not seen enough of him to judge his ability, but we have playmakers in the team already, if we're signing a number 10, they have to be a match winner.

Is there good reason to project his goal contributions are going to increase? I don't think we the luxury of a €25m attacking player returning 5 goal contributions this season.

I suppose there’s a reason West Ham and Monaco both want him aswell. He’s a very good player. Wouldn’t read too much into his contributions from last season

His contributions last season are the only measurement of his ability at the level. That being said, his record is decent at Genk before that but not mind blowing. A player who is right for West Ham isn't necessarily right for Sunderland.

If we were judging players by base stats at this level every signing would be a dud

It is yeah, Salvatore. Only one half season in serie A which wasn't actually bad by any means but he's spent the rest in serie B.
