When I went to uni in Leicester in 2000 they had a section in the prospectus of "3 famous Leicester faces".

They were Gary Lineker, Adrian Mole and... the Elephant man.

They filmed Adrian Mole in the house next door to my late Uncle's gaff ... Beryl Reid used to pop into my Uncle's to use the loo during filming and have a cuppa with my Aunt (who's still alive and kicking ... and used to date Jim Bowen when in her early twenties back in their native Lancashire before hooking up with my Uncle) ...look at me dropping showbiz names! ... what a fanboy!
