Newcastle United have made an enquiry about 24-year-old Leicester City and England winger Harvey Barnes, having had a bid for his compatriot and Foxes playmaker James Maddison, 25, turned down by the East Midlands club. (Mail)

So it's true if Newcastle want him they'll have time sell him. He's not ruled it out there mate .

I don't think nufc will pay more than 50 he's not worth it .. prices are silly

You are rather naive buddy ... here's the kind of conversation that starts this sort of optimism amongst fans.

Reporter - to 'source' "Do you think James Maddison would completely rule out a move to Newcastle?"

Source - "I think there are many clubs that Maddison would consider moving to at some point"

Reporter 'breaks' story - "James Maddison would be open to a move to Newcastle".

All of which ignores the fact that he still has 2 years to run on his current contract and is a player that his central to his current team's ambitions.

Yes there might be a price that we would sell any player for ... but in Maddison's case that wouldn't be anything close to £40 million ... as Brendan Rodgers made very clear after yesterday's game.

<laugh> Proper bloody denial here

I wonder what you’ll be saying once the players do start leaving?

I think Schmeichel and Tielemans (and possibly some that aren't getting much game time) are likely to go ... both are in our top 5 wage earners ... Tielemans has been offered a new contract but hasn't signed ... Kaspar is 35, possibly wants a new challenge and Daniel Iversen is coming through and started yesterday in the game that usually indicates the starting line-up for the opener.

There is no denial ... why on earth would we sell really promising talent already on long contracts that aren't even at the top of the wages tree?

The fact that we've offered Tielemans a new contract shows we have the money to do so - yes if we wanted to bring others in we would likely have to sell first ... but not our best players ... that would be plain daft.

As much as you and other fans would like it if we had to sell our best players... we don't. Sorry to disappoint.<laugh>

But not to Arsenal though

Leicester need to sell to buy. That's why you've only signed.......

Checks list...............

Nobody.

Likely true ... but there ain't much wrong with the squad we have ... and why would you sell fillet steak to buy burgers?

We beat Sevilla quite comfortably yesterday and are looking forward to the season ahead ... only negative was Ricardo Pereira pulling up with what could be an a achilles injury ... other than that we start the season with the fittest, deepest, squad we've probably ever had.

Your local journo Ben Jacobs appears on a lot of our youtube streams and is constantly spouting the narrative that Leicester need to sell before they can buy. He seems convinced that Tielemans will be away as a minimum.

I think your main issue this year is who you will get to replace Rodgers. He's now 6 months past his use by date. Then you have the constant question of how do you replace Vardy?

You seem to know Flossy. You've written several essays on why he won't join Arsenal. <laugh>

Succinctly, Ponky, given your comprehension limitations ... why swap LCFC for a club that has just managed to achieve what we did twice in the last 3 seasons, if you could move to a club with CL and a better squad, or to Manchester United? ...

When our better players leave, I always wish them well and live to see them push on and achieve even greater things ... e.g. Mahrez and Kante. Can't get that excited about one making something of a sideways move - to a club that has achieved less than ours in the last 7 or 8 years ... <laugh>

The fact that you think moving from Lesta to Arsenal would be a sideways move kinda sums up the irony of your comment about comprehension limitations.

Keep on chatting ****e Flossy and I'll keep on rinsing ya <laugh>

Hats off to Ben ... although any Leicester fan could have told you the same ... we have the biggest squad ever at the club ... a week ago we were able to field 2 teams full of players that have played for the first team in 2 different games ... we don't have capacity for new signings in the Prem squad (and we are not in Europe for a change <whistle>) unless we make room for them ...

As for Vardy's replacement ... our 3 other strikers, Barnes, Daka and Iheanacho all notched double figures last season ... Barnes and Daka have scored 3 each in the 5 pre season friendlies...

Daka is still learning, but is the closest to Vardy in his playing style <cheers>
