There's going to be fun with your boys in the top mix expectations next season, if all this hype of money grows on trees follow. Only problem is if the Toon follow the same old form and right royally fook up, there be even more stick coming North than ususal. <laugh>

Aston Villa have been **** ever since they started spending.

But they were midtable championship I guess under a certain Steve Bruce, so its an improvement.

While I'm sure 10 years down the line nufc will not resemble today's nufc much I know the next 3 will be a building process.

It's all about defeating clubs around us at this point. The big 6 aren't within our grasp yet far from it.

We'll have good times and bad times, but it'll be class compared to Ashley's reign. I'm pretty sure we'll lose a few finals before winning anything.

The sooner FFP is obolished the better imo.

Take 10 years and amazing planning, consistently every single year to ever reach City.

Theyre miles ahead and spend silly cash

I remember the Chavs throwing money around in a 'see what sticks' approach for years before they actually managed to buy any success.

These things take time.

Tbh I don't think they will care what anyone thinks if its a better quality on offer on the field and competing with the likes of man city must be every teams dream surely.

I'm jealous but not bitter

This is true like I mean it's been so hopeless for 14 years. I think most fans of most clubs that support the clubs that have none would like feeling like something good might actually happen.

If nothing else I'm seeing Fosse pretending he isn't concerned that his clubs position is 1st on our menu.

Good to see the Toon lads getting the excuses in early. <whistle>

Im gonna be conservative and say 60% of Newcastle fans will be disappointed with anything under 10th.

Idiots.

Ones on here are alright mostly, but the general lot are divs

Chelsea won stuff from 1997-2000 (league cup, 2 FA Cups, European Cup winners cup and European Super Cup) and were qualifying for the CL ... think RA bought them in 2002ish and within 3 years they won their first title in 50 years...so not that long but they were way ahead of where the toon are.

City pre take over were on a par with toon. Within 2 years of their take over they were seriously challenging for top 4 made top 4 in 3 years and won the title in 4 years.

City was perfect timing. Man U were dying out, Liverpool were mostly ****e, Chelsea had a few slumps you and Arsenal werent doing much.

They came about when the league was ripe for a new boy to start winning stuff.

I still think City will kill all competition in the league personally.

Agree with all of this. What many people forget/ignore is how much we were shafted in the process of Chelsea being bought out. We qualified for the CL for a couple of years (and like 4 times in 6 years iirc) pre-RA (with Chelsea just behind us) and then he splashed the cash and we finished 5th and from then on started to cut our cloth accordingly. A lot of the financial mismanagement that lead us to the Ashley regime was due to the club relying (stupidly) on CL money for the players we were bringing in.

On a similar note the idea that I should suddenly care about FFP rules which weren't there to protect us when we needed it is laughable (that's a seperate observation, not linked to your post RCL).

I can't see us making top four in the next 5 years. Honestly, not convinced we'll make top 6 in that time either. It'll be about getting 7-8th and then hoping other teams have bad years I'd reckon. Just want to see effort on and off the pitch - something we haven't seen for a decade or so.

All very true, but I don't rule out top 7 or 8 in 5 years personally.

One good season is all that's required and we've finished 10th with Gayle up front.

Oh I probably wasn't clear. I think 7th/8th is achievable in the next few years yes. You only need look at the likes of West Ham to see that a good manager and a few good acquisitions and there's not a huge margin between 7th and 15th.

PS: Villa will have a team capable of challenging those positions too but honestly I don't rate Gerrard as a manager. With the first team they'll have this coming season they should be better than the likes of us (and many others) and yet I think the press will jerk him off if he gets them 10th.

It's also possible we get worse.. It can't be ruled out <laugh>

If we do it'll be hilarious tbh.. We'll just have to take it.

Ultimately though in time the club will have that one season required and go from there.
