Not happening, we wouldn't be making bids for Ekitike, Nunez, Paqueta blah blah if money was tight. After making such a statement in Jan, is doesn't make sense for spending to stop now.
From what I read he said new signings before the Forest game were unlikely but never say never. He was not referring to further signings in this transfer window.
Maddison has proven effective at RW too. Presumably would be predominantly used alongside Joelinton and Bruno but viewed as an option for RW if required.
He's an excellent player who is fully PL proven, so other than the fact £40million wont get him... What's the beef?

They want £60million because he's one of their best players, who scores and creates a lot of their goals. It's not really a Newcastle tax thing, I don't think... Contract is running down though so may be able to get him for a bit less than that.

Quite funny because I reckon within the next few months a few of these clubs that voted with the 5 to ban friendly sponsorship deals may be kicking themselves when the realise their owners can't do it anymore either.
