For the first time since SBR, we can completely trust in the manager because he's proven himself to be somewhat superhuman and has the backing of our ultimate saviours, the owners. So if Eddie says Fistbumps has value, I believe him. The days of resigning ourselves to having to keep cheap, crap options because we have no ambition to get any better are gone. If Fistbumps is an asset on the training ground, if he can do the odd job on the pitch, if he's happy being a bit part player in the new Newcastle United, then we should be fine with that.

Even with the contract, I doubt Schar will be starting CB next season. But if we bring in a Gleison Bremer and Schar can step in for the League Cup, it's no bad thing!
Agree with that, thank **** the days of picking favourites regardless of ability are gone a la Benitez and Mrs Doubtfire, doubt any of us would have likened to see Kraft,Shelvey,Fraser and Murphy on the team sheet but Howe has got them playing and we don't have a problem with their selection.

Remember when people were slating Eddie saying he'd only pick his favourite Lascelles and Schar was being pushed out? Yer man is owed a big apology. Got Schar and Burn settled to such an extent that Schar has signed on to stay. Great work by Eddie once again. Schar despite showing his weaknesses now and again has done really well. I like him and at our current level I don't think we can whinge too much. I don't think you'll ever eradicate the errors completely, he's just that type of player. If it wasn't the case, he wouldn't be at Newcastle. Him and Burn seem to gel well and compliment each others game.

He’s an average striker at best.

A bit harsh. I think he's looked pretty good and has excellent pedigree. I'd take him here all day long. He has not recovered his form after the injury, but prior to that he was on a serious upward trajectory. Eddie could be just the man to make the best of him. He's been essentially 1 in 2 the last seasons in terms of goals to starts. Prior to that he was largely a sub or played out wide. If you look at his record it compares favourably to other PL strikers, and his game is well rounded. He's ridiculous in the air, he's quick, he's strong, he scores goals. I'd want to know what the injury was and that he is over it, but I think he'd get a hatful here and be back in the England squad.

I think his fashion sense could be a challenge for Geordie blokes if I'm being honest though...

I assume Howe felt the same thing as Benitez did originally, ie Laecelles was a big mouth in the dressing room, and he assumed he be a leader on the pitch, so it was only after a succession of cack displays that Schar got a look in.

Likewise with Clark, he knew he'd been solid for the last few years and was a regular international so he was an easy choice for the first time... it took the Norwich and Man City shows for the truth to be revealed, but at least Howe decided there was no coming back after that.

Harsh? He has a 1 in 4 record. Roland complains about Wood who has a 1 in 3 at Burnley

I think we ARE talking about DCL, so I’m not going to get distracted by shouts of Hugo
