We're looking for an understudy for Wilson who is prepared to be on the subs bench and bide their time, most players we're being mentioned with want to be first choice or have a chance at being first choice. The club have just offered Wilson a much improved new long term deal.

What the **** for? He's 32 this season and injury prone?

Yes he has, that's why I asked. If we.really wanted a striker with prem experience we 'could' have gone for him and we should have been an appealing option for him. Just wondered what people's thoughts were on him valued at £20m.
Based on stats alone I don’t think he’s worth it. He’s 24 and a very poor scoring record apart from last season which was still 1 in 3.5

That was my thought. Not really an obvious upgrade on Wood imo. But just wondered whether he's the kind of player we 'should' have considered for the money, or whether the club is holding out for specific players and not getting drawn in to panic buys.

To get someone in who would immediately be 1st choice #9 ahead of Wilson, would probably cost us in the £70m+ bracket - and I don't see that happening just yet.

He's ideal for us IF he can keep injury free. And as DPP said, longer term he'll become a great impact sub / back-up player and hopefully a good mentor as we bring others in and develop them.

Exactly. He IS proven in the PL and has a better scoring record over a longer period than Dennis. Hopefully we’ll see that this season

He requires a different tactic to play to his strengths, I reckon they've worked on this during pre-season, Howe had enough on his plate just getting the ****ers to run more than 20 yards without blowing out their arses after Bruce.

Yes he does need a different tactic but I also think the pressure got to him a little bit. Hopefully a full pre season with Howe and he’ll score double figures I reckon this season

Patience is a virtue....

...a lot of our fans do not have!

We are in an infinitely better place than 12 months ago, with a much improved first team and backroom set up, more points on the board than we had after 6/7 games, a win 4 months earlier than last year and a clean sheet in the bag already.

Anyone who thinks we are done in the window, screen shot this, 2 more in before the window closes!
