Agreed. Longstaff and Hayden should go, and we should look to bring in 2 decent CM's.

But I personally think our main needs are a new striker, LB + 2 CB's.

If we started next season with a better attack and defence, then I'd be happy with a 3 cm of willock, joe and Bruno, so long as we have better on the bench.

Willock, Joe and Bruno = very high work rate and plenty of quality. It could be better but our priority is definitely defence and forwards.

I honestly struggle to prioritise because our attacking midfield is so fruitless its getting beyond a joke. They don't create and they don't score goals.. One of them doesn't even defend.

They could literally throw away the entire squad and I wouldn't care

That's the way I see it.. I expect much the same as January with one or 2 more exciting signings along with some underwhelming signings in many peoples eyes.

The thing is nufc is absolutely miles away from attracting top players.

There's nufc fans that really think Nunez will happen.... No chance imo.. Zero
This is a gradual build. We will improve and move up the league. It's an exciting process but the likes of Nunez won't be joining us. We are years from that

Yes that's my position mate.... There's fans that have become so delusional they're not listening to the words of the owners, the club or the manager.

They're hearing them all telling them to their faces that it'll take a decade, we can't spend much, urge caution and they start the mental gymnastics and say they're being clever to keep prices down.

They're literally flat earthers at this point.

It depends whether you consider Max/Fraser/Almiron forwards in a 4-3-3 or midfielders in a 4-5-1. I wasn't talking about wingers/forwards I was referring to CM's.

Honestly I don't consider them to be good enough that's as far as I can go with that lot.

I've reached a point where I can no longer bullshit myself mate.

They're utterly useless.. They're not doing anything productive

Max is keep as a sub maybe he could be maybe unlock a defense when we're good enough to actually get that far up the pitch

HENDRICKKKKKK

<grr>

I think he might go... Thats the problem there's actually about 10 players thst are nowhere near good enough and only half will be moved on.

Nobody even wants them, so they'll have to flog players like max and Almiron.

I've woken up to the reality which is that no matter how much money the owners have it'll be incredibly difficult to get anywhere near top 6 within 5 years.

I think it's a bit harsh on Fraser. He's scored a couple of goals and he delivers good balls into the box. He has a history of being a bit of an assist machine at bournemouth, especially along side Wilson.

ASM I agree shouldn't be relied on, but he's still young and not in his prime, he could improve under howe.

I agree we should be looking for better overall though. Paqueta would be nice.

Ryan Fraser is a b level player and always has been. He's been here 2 years and created less than hendrix.

He's had a few good games, but so has Murphy who's also not good enough.

I sound like mrtiote today, but really there's hardly any of the squad I wouldn't be pleased to see the back of.

Paquetta I don't see it happening... More like Cantwell or billing

You have to wipe the slate clean after Howe though. Joelinton has been crap up until this season. Fraser was a good winger before he came to us, then he got Bruce'd and was basically dropped because we played 5-3-2 with wingbacks.

Fraser deserves more time because if he's played in a good side, he's a good winger. Works hard, decent defensively, can score and assist.

He's literally the only midfielder we have that can cross. Almiron is played on the right because he is only a threat when cutting in, he can't cross, neither can Maxi.

Mate really they're not good enough no matter how many slates they get.

They've be given enough new slate to make Wallsend look like Cumbria

He did well enough to get England caps and I honestly feel we're guilty of failing to realise how crap newcastles current side is.

Ok we scraped a few wins and stayed up, but there's no question that DCL is a better striker than what we've got with the exception of Wilson imo.

This time last year we had Gayle Wilson that was it, so if we start next season with Wilson DCL Ekiteke and wood that's an absolutely huge improvement.
Michael Rickets got an England call up

Just watched Howe's presser and he's tried once again to try to explain the situation.

The journalists don't help, but there's fans out there that just simply do not understand that nufc cannot just do a man City.

We can comfortably sign five players at £40m each and be well within FFP. Whether we do or not, I've no idea. FFP looks at 3 years and averages so whilst there needs to be one eye on the future, we need to spend fairly big now just to cement mid-table. We're going to finish about 14th and spending about £60m or so will ensure we can finish around 14th-12th again next year. I don't believe for one second that the owners aren't aiming for European places next year, and that will cost around £150m.

It's also a matter of who's available, who wants them and whether they'll come to Newcastle.

Nufc won't be picking up the scraps, but they can't just start taking whatever they like.

Look at who we bought for 25 million?.. Howe said he's been outstanding so that's the level at this point.

Will it though? If the first half of the season had been like the second half we'd have comfortably finished in the Euro places.

I think £60m spend on top of the current spend will get comfortably get more than 12th to 14th.

What im saying is that i don't think you have to say "you've got to at least spent XXX amount to get to Europe", as a massive part of it is also set up amd management, West Ham haven't spent that much and they got top 6 last season and likely this season too, whereas Everton have spent a ****tonne (potentially £50m fpr Ali lol) and they might still go down.

.

Ok, a question then, which teams will we be completing with for signings?

Yes we won't sign Joselus anymore, but we won't get Haarlands either, so whats the mid ground?

Yes Liverpool and City are far more attractive than us, and Spurs and Arsenal are too, but i dont see why any players would favour teams like West Ham, Leicester and Wolves over us.
