Not being funny, but I looked beyond Man City's strongest 15 or 16 and there is a dip in quality (relatively speaking). Or look at Liverpool; their midfield reserves are Keita, Milner and Oxlade-Chamberlain. If we signed any of those, as an aspirational side, I'd be disappointed. It's not possible to have super-high quality reserves. these two are at the absolute pinnacle and we're still talking about some average PL players. I can't be bothered to look, but I imagine most of us haven't even heard of some of the reserves even at Arsenal, Leicester, West Ham. Our problem has been having Championship-level players in the bloody starting lineup, a useless reserve team and a hopeless youth system producing naff all. All of this combined with an utter clown running the loans, it puts us light years behind so to get a top 4 PL XI on the pitch, we need 9 more players. That will take time and money.
But if you look at the alleged transfer spend then we can’t afford Paqueta either despite GG saying it’s done
In January we were by all accounts likely going down. But we still had an excellent window. We're in a far different place this summer, so imo we'll see more evidence of the club's ambition.
4 or 5 1st team players on the level of Bruno trips and Wilson and we'll have a decent side providing they get it right.
I just have this terrible feeling deep deep down inside that Lascelles and Shelvey will survive the 1st cull
I can see newcastle doing what they've always done which is keep hold of the dross and trade the top end. Ensuring a layer of thick turd beneath a fresh surface
