Tony Mowbray has said he is not interested in Manning. Come on Ryan ...sign a new contract

Am I the only one not fussed about if he signs a new deal or not? Don't rate him particularly highly as a left back where we insist on playing him, and doesn't seem to do the business in midfield either. I certainly wouldn't be stretching our wage structure to sign him, especially if by not signing him we could sign a new left back using his wages.

If we could get a reasonable fee for him and sign a replacement then cool. Hoping to get through with Wallace who has something like 20 appearances in three years and turns like milk is more the issue though if that’s what we were faced with.

Yes, to be absolutely clear, I'm not proposing sticking with just Wallace :emoticon-0108-speec

I wonder if Manning would do a better job than Cameron in that holding role, but his lack of positional sense would worry me...mind you...Cameron...

I dont think Manning is a good enough Defender at LB, but he looks better as a WB to me. He scored in his last 3 games for us, has chipped in with goals every now and then, and can deliver good crosses. So I'd be happy if he signed a new contract and is used as a WB when we play 3 at the back, or perhaps on the left side of the 3 in a 4 2 3 1. Chair didn't look good there yesterday, and we seem short of proven good alternatives in that position.

One thing I really like about Manning is he will always try and get a cross in, something that Chair doesn't do and even BOS and Kakay were reluctant to on Friday.

The only thing I would slightly disagree with is Ball.
When Ball was given a run in the team after lockdown he actually played well. He fulfilled is role and scored the equaliser against Luton ...and would have scored the equaliser versus Coventry on Friday if Dykes was not in the way. We were singing his name as a future captain at the end of the season, and on the back of those performances he was given a new contract.
Not flashy or mesmerising. He is worth his place as our DCM and I would play him 100/100 times instead of Cameron.

So Ball is OK, I would have him in my team (like watching Shaun Derry!) The rest of what you say Yorkshire is spot on
100% agree, I honestly thought he would be one of the first names on the team sheet.

I totally agree with Yorkshires post spot on.

Left back has been a problem for years. I think it unfair to give Manning such a hard time as he has done a reasonable job in an unnatural position keeping a so called LB 'specialist' out of the team.

I think MW is missing a trick as I believe Manning could do a great job in midfield and is much better player than Amos or Carroll. If he is given a run of games in midfield we will really see that we have a decent player on our hands, it will be a big loss if he leaves.

I'd play Manning (if he wants to play for us) left side of the three behind Dykes.
Chair in the centre and BOS (if he stays) on the right.
I'd put Ball and Carroll holding, in front of a back four of Kakay, Dickie, Barbet (Or a new CB) and Himalayas boy at left back.
Dieng in goal.

I'd like to see this given a go. I'd also like to see more of the new kid, Thomas, on the left. MW perhaps sensibly bedding him in slowly.

If it's true that he doesn't want to play for us. It's probably driven by the fact he is constantly played out of position and is getting criticism for not being a great LB!?

That's my point, it must be very frustrating for him knowing he has the ability and watching the club bring in players in his position that are no better or worse than him. Sometimes the obvious is in front of your face but MW is not seeing it.

Would that be like a defence that manages to leak goals game-in game-out having one of the worst defensive records in the league?
Would that be like having two keepers where you cannot clearly identify a No. 1?
Would that be like being useless at defending set-pieces (incredibly including corners).
Would that be like not seeing how poor we are at crossing the ball into the box to give forwards clear opportunities?

... seems there’s a few areas for easy improvement and advancement!

I suspect transfer plans may need to be altered again given the new COVID restrictions - a further delay in fans being able to attend on match days
