The amortisation of transfers is great for short term splurging but if you bring in a bunch that can't hack the Premier league and flop in year 1, then all of a sudden you end up like Everton not able to get rid of any of the flops yet still having to account for their cost as well as their wages over the next 4 seasons

It's all about risk management at the end of the day. You take a risk hoping that it pays off. The better your scouting, the less risk you have.

You say that but one thing chelsea have been great at is getting rid of their dross for great prices. Obviously not all but Fair whack, always finding a way to shift the deadwood.

Yet the players mentioned used by a decent coach could be so much better imho.

£32m is a lot. But if he comes good, he's at Reese James pricing, £50m+. And if he makes us better and we win stuff, who cares. Besides which NOBODY knows how this stuff reallty works. Like how revered is he, who's scouting him, who's trying to get him, etc.. He was at Chelsea, he must have something.

but they paid a lot for some of those.. add in lukaku and they have spanked loads on dross.

A couple of years ago (when 18) he was named their academy product of the year and they've probably got the best academy in the UK (in terms of output of players). It doesn't mean he's going to be great and he's had a bad injury so it does seem like a large amount but you've got to imagine he's been thoroughly scouted. A lot was expected of him, be interesting to see what we have on our hands.

Im pretty sure it was last year, possibly one before where he was the golden wonder kid on FM.
