It has been excellent, mostly, but Wood wasn't an essential, and 25 million for basically Shola Ameobi V2 is not good business.
Don't forget we sold him for £15m. So for £10m we shafted Burnley, were able to actually play with a striker, avoided relegation and the rest is history.

Not bad in my book...

Newcastle were 19th without a striker at the time. They wouldn't have been able to attract a decent one, so they saw they could simply take wood and that defeated Burnley and basically relegated them.

Targett was probably on good money at villa he's not really played much but is a reliable solid player.

I don't think taking Wood really made much of a different tbh

Burnley were ****e all season, Wood only scored 3 goals in 17 games for Burnley that season.

They didn't lose a game for ages with him up top after he signed .. they had no focal point without... not sure who woud have played striker probably max who was a gutless turd when push came to shove.

The anti-Wood bandwagon collapsed ages ago tbh.

Simple fact is we were losing every game before he came along, and rarely lost when he was playing. He did get a couple of vital goals, but the key role he played was being a target man and taking defenders out of the picture, for other players to have space and score. With Wilson always injured, Bruce was resorting to playing the likes of ASM, Joelinton and Willock up front and all out of position and it was an utter mess.

That and the fact it basically relegated Burnley the moment we signed him and guaranteed our survival.

I'm pretty sure Wood was rubbish at Burnley in the previous season until the final few months where he went on a scoring spree to save them from relegation.
