I wouldn't get overly excited about the summer window because FFP is already biting hard at nufc. There's a chance of a loan or 2 IF a player can be sold... Maximin will be kept and isak is seen as a waste of money by sources within the club and they could look to sell in the summer .
Apparently Matty Longstaff is on his way back in the summer as Howe thinks he'll be like a new signing. Isaac Hayden too.
This will all come down to whether real Madrid increase their interest in Guimareas who's not signed a new contract despite nufcs best offer.
Shopping list - 1. James Maddison 2. Moussa Diaby 3. Ivan Toney 4. Another CB 5. Another LB. Oot - 1. ASM - 20m 2. Lascelles - 10m 3. Fraser - 5-10m 4. Clark - 2m
Won't grt owt for Clark, his contract expires in the summer, along with Ritchie, Gillespie & Dummett (unless renewed soon). For revenue, we should add Lewis to the outgoing list. Young enough to make it elsewhere and still 2 years on his contract (I think), but doesn't look like he fits for us.
I expect the purse strings to tighten personally.. I can see the player sales having to happen. Newcastle are not going to be allowed the sponsorship they want and have to do everything the right way. At some point people should realise they go into every window expecting several big names and the reality is very different.
1. Trading is part of the game, it's essential. Nobody will be surprised by player sales. 2. They will get good sponsors, commensurate with going rates. It will now be maybe a touch slower. 3. I've never seen an unrealistic expectation yet. Hope, for the likes of Maddison, but otherwise everybody seems completely grounded and very happy with the reality.
The door has been closed on anything other than newcastle having to perform miracles to compete . The 5 to 10 year plan could be never if they get it wrong... see Everton for details. Newcastle are simply what they should be... If only Ashley hadn't missed the boat..
If we do finish in the CL this season, I think we'll probably not finish top 4 next season. We cannot splash the cash too often. So if we do maintain top 4 status it will have to be god-like genius spending and management as we cannot continue to spend similar to the other big boys. There's a reason why we were bought for 300m and they are for sale for 3-5b.
No, it hasn't. What's happened is the door now opening to well run clubs to compete, such as Brighton and Brentford. The days of money being the be all and end all are coming to an end. City first, then they will clamp down on whatever the **** Chelsea are doing, then they will move on to protecting younger players and the loan market abuse. Newcastle are in a wildly good position because not only do they have backing but they have the people, the plan, the fans, the history and the reputation. Please remember, whilst it cannot count towards FFP, the owners can chuck what they want at it as long as we don't then fall into a financial deficit. That means training facilities, new stadiums, and so on can be funded with investment and it doesn't touch FFP. What City did was fast-track it, because they were a tin pot club recently in League One with next to nothing going for it. For all Ashley was horrendous, what he left was a club with a very clean balance sheet to build from. City didn't have that - they were over-spending in League One and the Championship, carrying debt then went on a ludicrous spending spree to get success quick. Their numbers today, whilst inflated, aren't unreasonable - it's their path to get there that is fraught with corruption. Newcastle United don't have many of these issues. We're ahead of our plan. But haven't overspent or cooked the books to do it. They just got a little lucky with Eddie Howe and some incredible purchases. There will be bumps, though Gordon doesn't look like being one of them. So, yeah, we are we should be - top 4. And we've not even really started yet.
